UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta cooperated with Indonesian Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to create a program about illness prevention and management in campus surroundings. The cooperation is signed by the signatory of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between General Director of Illness Prevention and management of Kemenkes, dr. Anung Sugihantono, M.Kes and the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho at dr. Parakosa building on Wednesday (1016/2019).
dr. Anung mentioned that recently Indonesia faces the epidemiology transition causing Indonesia experience double illness loads. There is transition of disease scheme where the non-communicable disease (PTM) increases significantly which causes the main reason for death in Indonesia. On the other hand, the communicable disease (PM) has not been resolved yet and become a specter like HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria, Dengue fever, and many others. Most of the PTM can be prevented by controlling the risks. The main risks of PTM are smoking, lack of physical activity, and unhealthy dietary habit.
“Thus, collage as the educational place for young generation and the place for gathering of productive aged group who can potentially be agent of change in the health sector is considered having potency and plus value to contribute in improving the public health,” dr. Anung explained in the middle of the MoU.
Seeing the benefit of the development of healthy University concept, kemenkes creates a breakthrough to optimize the illness prevention and management for the productive aged group in the collage surroundings that is called Healthy Campus Program. It is a systematic and comprehensive effort in realizing college as the institution who integrates health matters. It can be reflected in daily operational activities, administration management, and academic mandatory.
This program can move the educational sector to participate actively in realizing health Indonesia through the promotive and preventive efforts in collage surroundings. Through this program, the college will create a policy focusing on health matters in order to create health, fit, and productive campus community. Some indicators of this program are clean, healthy, secured environment. For example, there are good waste management, facilities and infrastructures based on quality standards, hospitable disability, and healthy canteen which serves various healthy foods.
Moreover, other indicators are the existence of “Zero Tolerance” area which is the area of no cigarettes, alcohol, and drugs and the effort of early detection of the PTM and mental illness that are conducted gradually. For instance, the people at risk should be sent to the polyclinic to get medical treatment. This effort can be done by making medical center in each faculty of campus. The programs might consist of obesity checking, blood pressure and glucose measurement, and the improvement of health promotion in any activities of campus.
Today, the program of Health Campus is in the step of testing that will be conducted at four universities which are Universitas Indonesia, Universita Andalas, UNS, Universitas Muhamadiyah Yogyakarta. The developing of the program will be held in several steps which are visitation, MoU and cooperation agreement, orientation, program launching and socialization, and evaluation. Hopefully, the result can be an insight to polish the program so it can be applied in all universities in Indonesia as a structured, systematic, and massive program.
“This program of Health Campus enables the university to create not only superior students in academic field but also alumnus who are healthy in their physical and spiritual as excellent human resources,” dr. Anung stated. HUMAS UNS/Imron
