UNS – An Open Senate Session was held in commemoration of the 48th Dies Natalis of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in 2024, on Friday (3/8/2024). The session took place at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram UNS Auditorium. This year, UNS’s 48th Dies Natalis adopts the theme “Dynamic Higher Education Transformation to Realize Indonesia Emas 2045 Vision.”

The session was opened by the Chairperson of the UNS Academic Senate (SA), Prof. Dr. Sri Sulistyowati, dr., Sp.OG(K). In attendance were civil servants, military officers, police officers, religious leaders, community figures, and UNS partners from the former Surakarta Residency area to the national level.

Also present were the Acting Rector of UNS, Heads and Members of the Professor Council, faculty deans, unit leaders, lecturers, education staff, students, UNS Alumni, Dharma Wanita, Purnakarya, and other invited guests.

The Acting Rector of UNS, Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.H., warmly welcomed all guests attending the open senate session. The 48th Dies Natalis of UNS is seen as a moment to move faster and more accurately. All members of the academic community are expected to make real contributions to help the government face every challenge.

The challenge of rapid technological advancement forces everyone to undergo transformation and redefine relevance, models, processes, and competitive advantages, including higher education institutions. Another challenge is related to the VUCA era, which encourages every entity to become adaptive, dynamic, and flexible.

Dr. Chatarina emphasized the importance of higher education institutions making real contributions to national self-reliance and economic development. Innovative works and products can be applied in society. Ideas and concepts need to be constantly presented to solve various current and future global issues.

“Real contributions can be made, among other things, through the quality and beneficial tridharma of higher education according to the needs of society, the nation, and our country,” Dr. Chatarina said.

Therefore, UNS strives for dynamic transformation and becomes an organization with agility. This competency enables UNS to quickly adapt to the times and make significant contributions to the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045. UNS, as a higher education institution, contributes to human development and mastery of science and technology.

Dr. Chatarina also highlighted UNS’s achievements in various fields over the past year. Gratitude and pride were expressed as UNS once again ranked in the Top 10% for achieving the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) in 2023 in the PTNBH League. This achievement was accompanied by two IKU excellence awards in the PTNBH league, namely in IKU 6 and IKU 7.

UNS received two resource awards from the Directorate General of Research and Technology, namely academic leader in technology and academic leader in arts and culture. In the 2023 Diktiristek Awards, UNS also received several awards, including coperation awards for cooperation report categories and two public relations awards for press releases and magazines.

The event continued with the presentation of awards to outstanding alumni and new UNS doctors. These awards were presented directly by Dr. Chatarina to 16 outstanding alumni and dozens of UNS doctors. They are proud individuals born from a process of integrated and quality academics.

“A strong network with the UNS Alumni Family Association (IKA) both at the university and faculty levels throughout Indonesia and abroad is the main supporting force in developing UNS as a PTNBH,” Dr. Chatarina said.

At this Open Senate Session, UNS awarded the “Adikarya Anugraha Widyatama Upa Baksana” to Professor Iftekhar Hasan, who is a full professor and Edward Gerald Corrigan Chair in Finance at Fordham University, USA. UNS awarded Professor Iftekhar Hasan for two major reasons. First, he has made significant contributions to the development of scholarship and policies in the field of economics, especially regarding the financial sector in developing countries. Second, Professor Iftekhar has made significant contributions to the development of UNS.

A collective prayer session led by Prof. Dr. E. Muhtar, S.Pd., M.Si., CFrA, followed. At the end of the event, the session was concluded by Prof. Sri Sulistyowati. Humas UNS
