UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta hosts the National UI GreenMetric 2021 Workshop on 28 – 29 July 2021 through the Zoom meeting and YouTube Live Streaming. The coordinator of Green Campus UNS, Dr. Suryanto, stated that UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is a global university ranking to apply environmentally friendly and sustainable campus activities. The ranking is promoted and initiated by Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2010. In 2020, 912 universities from 84 countries globally participated in this ranking. In December 2020, UI GreenMetric ranked UNS 7th at the national level and 99th at the global level.
“UI GreenMetric held workshop each year and collaborate with universities appointed in turns. This year, UNS is selected as the host for “Lokakarya Nasional UI GreenMetric 2021”. The theme of this workshop is Universities, UI GreenMetric, and SDGs in the Time of Pandemic,” Dr. Suryanto explained on Tuesday (27/7/2021).
Dr. Suryanto added that this workshop aims to grow awareness of the importance of sustainable environmental management, improve commitment and extend universities’ participation in managing green campuses, and enrich participants’ knowledge to contribute to Indonesia’s effort in achieving SDGs 2030 mainly in the time of Covid-19 pandemic. Lastly, to encourage real change in facing global competition through global sustainable partnership.
The targeted participants of this workshop are universities, institutes, and polytechnics in Indonesia. The workshop also invited the Governor and Vice-Governor of Central Java, the Provincial Secretary of Central Java, Major of Surakarta, the Head of Environmental Office in Surakarta, Sukoharjo, Boyolali, Wonogiri, Sragen, Karanganyar, and Klaten (Sukosubowonostraten), and the executive board of UNS.
The Chief of UI GreenMetric Ranking UNS, Dr. Murtanti Jani Rahayu added that the Keynote Speaker in the workshop is the Minister of Environment and Forestry RI, and the speakers in the workshop will come from Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Diponegoro, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Universitas Negeri Malang, Universitas Negeri Padang, Universitas Islam Negeri Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Universitas Gajah Mada, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Universitas Negeri Semarang, Universitas Terbuka, Universitas Dinamika, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, and Universitas Hasanuddin.
This workshop is expected to improve the commitment and expand the participation of universities in managing green campuses. “In the workshop, (the speakers) will share the best practice in UI GreenMetric implementation, including the training to fill UI GreenMetric questionnaire. The sustainable environmental management issue in the university will also be discussed,” Dr. Murtanti stated. Humas UNS
