UNS — The Center for Excellence (PUI) Javanologi Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta officially announced national and international universities ranked in the Best 10 UNS Jawametrik 2021 on Thursday (20/5/2021). The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, the Head of PUI Javanologi UNS, Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo, Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, Vice-Rector for Management and Human Resources Affairs UNS, Prof. Bandi, and Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS, Prof. Sajidan, attended the press release in Ruang Sidang Senat II Rectorate Building dr. Prakosa UNS.

In the video announcement shared by PUI Javanologi UNS, UNS ranked 1st in UNS Jawametrik 2021, followed by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), Universitas Negeri Surabaya (Unesa), Institut Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta, and Universitas Indonesia (UI). Ranked sixth to tenth are Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta, Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes), ISI Surakarta, Universitas Leiden Netherlands, and Australian National University (ANU).

This ranking is based on eleven criteria, Javanese study institute, Javanese study academicians, Javanese study literature and Javanese study literature collection, collaboration and partnership in Javanese culture, and events related to Javanese culture. In addition, the following criteria are Javanese artifact collection, action on Javanese culture and norms, the use of Javanese language, Javanese culture award/acknowledgment from other institutions, and digitalization or technology adaptation of Javanese culture.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, was delighted with the achievement. He mentioned that this ranking is a system that could connect one institute with the others to develop Javanese culture. “This is in line with UNS vision to be the center for knowledge, technology, and art that excel at the international level while continue upholding the noble values of the nation’s culture,” Prof. Jamal stated. Further, Professor Jamal believes that PUI Javanologi UNS will continue developing and advancing the Javanese culture actively.

“At its 45th anniversary, UNS proudly initiate a global ranking system that pays attention to Javanese culture,” Prof. Jamal added.

This year, PUI Javanologi selected Best 27 out of 104 institutions from Asia, America, to Europe. The 27 institutions were then ranked into the Best 10 UNS Jawametrik 2021.

“We hope that cultural institutions or universities can utilize this ranking system to share information and work together in developing global culture,” the Head of PUI Javanologi, Prof. Sahid, stated during the announcement. Humas UNS
