UNS – Group Research Team (RG) for Community Empowerment at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Postgraduate School started community service activities for the Sangu Gesang Women’s Group, Jumantono District, Karanganyar Regency, Sunday (7/5/2023) at the Sangu Gesang Hall. The Sangu Gesang Women’s Group consists of women from Sukosari and Tugu village, Jumantono District.
UNS Postgraduate School Community Coordinator, Haryani Saptaningtyas Ph.D., said that the activities carried out by the Sangu Gesang Women’s Group were also part of social responsibility for the community around the UNS Field Laboratory located in Sukosari village, Jumantono District.
Haryani explained that this activity was an empowerment for women that focused on the congregation of the Al-Jawiriyah Mosque, which is located about 100 meters from the UNS Field Laboratory in Jumantono District. Due to that event, the Sangu Gesang Women’s Group was born. The name Sangu Gesang itself was taken from the name of the Sangu Gesang Association which previously existed in Tugu and Sukosari.
“The activity plan includes training, among which what has been inventoried is training on making snacks and there is also a suggestion for making silage for animal feed,” Haryani said.
Furthermore, Haryani said they chose the mosque because it is a place of worship that can also be a vehicle for improving the residents’ economy. Women were chosen because women are figures who can support the family economy and women are the central figure in educating children.
Meanwhile, the Head of Jumantono District, Bambang Sriyanto, S.Sos., M.M. also expressed his gratitude and hoped that this kind of activity could develop to other places in Jumantono District.
“As we know, MSMEs have developed quite well in Jumantono District. Such as cassava chip SMEs, skin rambak and others. However, I hope that there will be new MSMEs born from this activity initiated by UNS,” Bambang said.
On that occasion there were also attended by the Head of Sukosari Village, Sulardi; the Head of Tugu Village, Ngadi; as well as figures from the Sangu Gesang Association, Ginanjar and Fadlil Misbah. Not only that, this event was also attended by two social activists from the Netherlands, Willemien Ankum and Janny from the Stichting Regunse Indonesie (SRI) organization. In the future, the SRI institution is also expected to become a supporting system for women’s empowerment activities in the Sangu Gesang Women’s Group, Jumantono District. Humas UNS
