UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta is ranked second in the Central Java 2022 Provincial Student Sports Week (Pomprov), with 71 medals consisting of 19 gold, 30 silver, and 22 bronze, in the regional selection. The Pomprov Jateng took place for nine days on September 1-9, 2022, and was held at several universities as a host. This event also serves as a regional selection process to choose representative athletes to represent the Central Java Province in the XVII National Student Sports Week (Pomnas) on November 17-26 in West Sumatra.

Chief of Academic and Student Affairs Bureau, Rohman Agus Pratomo, appreciates UNS students’ achievements in Pomprov Jateng 2022. “Congratulations to UNS students who won medals at Pomprov. UNS sent a contingent to compete in 13 sports fields and successfully took home 71 medals. After this, those who earned gold medals will prepare to go on the Pomnas. Hopefully, Central Java can bring home Pomnas medals and be the general champion this year,” said Drs. Rohman Agus Pratomo, when interviewed uns.ac.id, Wednesday (9/14/2022).

The joyful feeling is expressed by students who will represent Central Java at Pomnas 2022. “Thank God I am thrilled because this is my first Pomprov, and I can get maximum results. Especially in the semi-finals and finals, I was quite left behind, but finally, I could catch up. In the first set in the semi-final round, I lost. Then in the second set, I was left behind with a 10-16 score. However, at the end of the set, I could reverse the situation to 21-17, and in the third set, I had more self-confidence. Hence I could win 21-8,” said Fiery Mufti Eldison, a student of the Physical Education, Recreation, and Health Program (PJKR), Faculty of Sports (FKOR) UNS.

A similar notion was also expressed by Zidni Rahma Amaly, a student of the Sports Training Education Program (PENKEPOR), FKOR UNS. Zidni managed to win gold at the women’s E-class martial arts branch. “Of course, I am happy and proud. Other than making parents, family, friends, and of course, also, UNS proud. Moreover, this is my last opportunity to represent UNS and Central Java in Pomnas because it is my final semester,” Zidni said.

The martial arts athlete said that the preparations for Pomprov were quite short. However, she also joined the city team, which made her become more mature and ready. “The UNS team practices 6-10 times a week, in the morning and afternoon. Preparation is not only training but certainly also spiritual because, from experience, God’s intervention really happens. Another thing that needs to be prepared is a mental condition since the mental condition is one of the important factors during competition. It can be concluded that a champion must have a good mentality,” she said.

Another UNS student, Maharani Dean Pramudita, who managed to win four medals at the same time, also claimed to be happy and grateful. Maharani, who is often called Fenix, a student from the Sociology Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), won gold medals for women’s 200m individual breaststroke swimming and bronze medals for women’s 100m, 50m, and 50m butterfly styles for women. “I feel happy and very grateful to win 1 (one) gold medal and 3 (three) bronze medals in my first Pomprov game. Thanks to Allah SWT, family, coach, lecturers, and friends who have supported me. Hopefully, at Pomnas 2022, I can give my best to the Central Java team while contributing to UNS achievements,” said Fenix. Humas UNS
