UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held the Opening Ceremony International Pencak Silat Championship on Monday (17/5/2021). The opening ceremony was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application and lived streamed in UNS YouTube channel to mark the International Virtual Pencak Silat Championship for Single and Group Fighter opening.
The sports competition is a series of events held to commemorate UNS 45th Anniversary and will be held in three days from Monday to Wednesday (17 – 19/5/2021). UNS Sport Coordinator for UNS 45th Anniversary Celebration, Dr. Sapta Kunta Purnama, stated that 29 teams from nine countries joined the international championship. The ten international teams are from Algeria, Brunei Darussalam, Japan, Singapore, India, Philippines, Thailand, Pakistan and 19 national teams are from various universities in Indonesia, such as Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Universitas Lampung, Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta, Universitas Ivet Semarang, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, and Universitas Negeri Surabaya,
“In total, 118 athletes, consisting of 25 single fighter male athletes, 24 single fighter female athletes, 33 male group athletes, and 36 female group athletes (participated in the international championship),” Dr. Sapta Kunta explained.
The International Virtual Pencak Silat Championship invited Katmujiono S as the Chairman of the match and seven juries, Agung Nugroho, Bambang Edy, Kadarisman, Mastur, Mahfud, Sukardjo, and Wiwaha Aji Santosa.
Besides celebrating UNS 45th Anniversary, the international competition also serves as a means of silaturahim among Pencak Silat athletes in building harmony and friendship without eliminating their competitiveness.
