UNS – Time management is usually becoming a block for students during their college years. Moreover, students who are active in organizational activities or choose to juggle studying and working. Time needs to be managed in a way that the activities/duties do not collide with each other. Even though there are many tips for college students to manage their time for studying and other activities, but in reality, not all students can implement these tips.

This struggle was experienced by a student of Psychology Program Faculty of Medicine (FK) UNS, Brian Nanta Kurnia. Brian –his short name—is an editor for the Korea Reomit YouTube channel, has his own story and tips to manage his college routine and his job.

“It hasn’t been long, I started last semester around October, so it just 4 months now. My everyday activities; studying for sure, (I) also active in the student association, last year I held the position of media and information staff. Besides that, (I) sometimes help teachers when they need assistance with creative media,” stated Brian.

The student of the Psychology program told uns.ac.id how he can be selected to be an editor for the YouTube channel with 2.47 subscribers. It started from the information he got from his friend, Brian ventured to register as YouTube editor.

“I knew it from my friend who was the editor for Mas Hansol (Hansol Jang, the owner of Korea Reomit YouTube channel; mas: Javanese honorifics for older brother or somebody older (male)), my friend reposted Mas Hansol’s story (that he is conducting) oprec (open recruitment) for part-time editor. Then I registered because it is pretty good to add my experience, then I followed the selection process, Thank God I am accepted,” he stated, Thursday (20/2/2020).

When asked about how he manages his time for studying and working, Brian said that he has his strategy for it. He set a reminder on his laptop and smartphone. This way, Brian can monitor what duties or jobs he has not finished. Even if he edited 2-3 videos a week, Brian still prioritized his study.

“Because I am a deadliners and quite forgetful, I made an integrated reminder on my phone and laptop. It can remind me of the jobs that I have not finished and quite effective. And because I am a student, my priority is my college assignments and then video editing, because if I edit the video first but I still have college assignments, it doesn’t feel good and the result is not maximum,” Brian said.

The chance to join the Korea Reomit team provides great benefits for Brian. He also admitted that the Korea Reomit team has a good environment and very supportive, thus, it is easier for Brian to manage his study and other activities, including video editing.

At the end of the interview with uns.ac.id, Brian has a message for the young generation, especially university students who want to enter the creative industry, they have to be active in finding new knowledge, including learning how to deliver ideas and concepts creatively.

“For friends who are interested in creative media, especially in video editing, currently the jobs are widely available. Because if we see the current industry, they often need ideas and creative concepts to introduce/disseminate their products. And actually, not only editing skills, creative thinking and how we deliver ideas to others (are also needed). And to survive in the creative world, there is one thing that we need to keep; our curiosity and willingness to learn. We have to be eager to explore new things, look up what is in trend, and new things that we can learn to improve our skills. Because the world will keep on developing, so if we want to survive, we also have to keep developing (ourselves),” he concluded. Humas UNS/Yefta
