UNS — It is almost a year since mid of March 2020 when the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that Covid-19 had become a global pandemic. All of the living sectors are affected, including the health, economy, and education, and various strategies and adjustments in management have been taken by related parties to minimize the impact. An example of these continuous efforts is taken by the 2021 Student Community Service Program (KKN) team from Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta in Kalikajar Village, Kaligondang Subdistrict, Kabupaten Purbalingga District.
Group 26 KKN UNS that consists of nine students from various study programs works under the theme of “Supporting Pemahaman Covid-19” (Supporting the Comprehension on Covid-19) in their community service program. Dhia Azmi Nabila, as team leader, stated that the theme is highly relevant with the current condition considering that the positive Covid-19 cases have reached one million people.
“Considering the increasing infection number, we were moved to prepare a program to produce washbasin with pedal system and hand sanitizer with village Karang Taruna (youth group),” Dhia stated on Friday (12/2/2021).
The program has been implemented on Thursday (11/2/2021) in Kalikajar Village Chief Office. The team has prepared the washbasin production, enabling them to produce three washbasins installed in three different places, the village hall and mosques. These places are selected because there is a potential for a meeting point for villagers. Karang Taruna Eka Kriya from RW 05 helped the team produce 50 bottles of spray hand sanitizer distributed to the villagers.
The Village Chief of Kalikajar Village, Ayatno, highly appreciated the program and is very grateful for the efforts to prevent Covid-19 infection in his village. He also stated that the team’s washbasins are the first pedal system washbasin owned by the village. “I promised that I would use this tool (and provide it) for Kalikajar villagers, especially those visiting Village Chief Office, so that they can apply tighter health protocol,” he stated.
A similar notion was also provided by the takmir Masjid Baitul Ghufron and Masjid Baitul Muslimin, where the other two washbasins were installed. They were enthusiastic and grateful for the no-touch washbasin installation in their masjid. Kalikajar villagers provided positive responses toward KKN UNS 26 programs. Villagers are more aware of health protocol and Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS).
“Hopefully, what our team has done will provide a positive impact on Covid-19 handling, especially in Purbalingga District,” Dhia concluded. Humas UNS
