UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta students took the initiative to handle climate and humanities issues through the Plan Indonesia project held by Teens Go Green Indonesia. Alvianita Maulia Fitriana and Rizaldy Hilmy Sagito from Geography Education Program 2019 and Rizky Nur Fadilah from Environmental Science Program 2020 are now implementing their social project separately.

Alvianita project focuses on the management and processing of wastes, Rizaldy promotes carbon emission reduction movements, and Fadilah works on local disaster mitigation that has been prepared long before they participated in the program. They stated that they were interested in the program because they have the concept and wanted to utilize the funding opportunity. “And we went through a selection with more than 200 young people in Indonesia,” Alvianita stated to uns.ac.id team on Monday (3/1/2022).

Their project targeted the young generation between 18-24 years old and disseminated the information through social media such as trash.mateid, carbondiet.id, and ajak.diskusi. “All have educational and promotional contents of the event that collaborated with several media partners,” Alvianita explained.

Alvianita added that during the project implementation, they experienced challenges. The hardest was time management because they were provided a short time period to attract participants to each project. “We made great efforts from manual promotion, media partner, to paid promotion,” she said.

They also need to work in Team, adjust with one another, and find a middle ground considering their diverse educational background. Therefore, meeting, discussion, and making a decision were a vital part of their activities. Alvianita personally stated that her interest in the program was moved by her will to implement the prepared plan and to learn project management.

Alvianita, Rizaldy, and Rizky also try to run their project that started in November 2021 to be continuous through innovations that support the theme of the event. At the end of the interview, Alvianita stated that she was in high spirit to implement the program after observing the community started developing awareness on the existing climate crisis

“A big action started with small action for ourselves and our surroundings,” she concluded. Humas UNS
