UNS – Environmental pollution is one of the effects of the rapid growth in the industrial area occurred not only in the urban area but also rural area. Methylene Blue or commonly known as MB is a substance used in industry as primer colour. The use of MB in industrial proses is only 5% and the rest of MB becomes the waste.
Based on this phenomenon, three students of Mathematics and Science Faculty Universitas Sebelas Maret (FMIPA UNS) Surakarta, Syahna Febrianastuti (2014), Elsa Ninda Karlinda Putri (2014), dan Uly Wulan Apriani (2015), created the synthesis and biometrical application to absorb MB using eco-bio technique.
They applied effective and easy go-green technology in decreasing the level of pollution called as BIA-GOAL (Bioadsorben Graphene Oksida-Alginate). BIO-GOAL uses alginate that can be found in seaweed. The result shows that MB is lowering in the amount of 90.37%.
Moreover, Syahna, Elsa, and Uli hope their invention can decrease the environmental pollution and relieve the emergence of some diseases. humas-red.uns/ref
