UNS – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has once again achieved a proud accomplishment on the national stage. This time, the achievement was presented by Restu Adi Purwanto and Rika Setyowati, both students of the D4 Occupational Safety and Health Study Program at the Vocational School (SV) UNS.
Restu and Rika awarded the Favorite Champion title in the Mining Safety Poster Competition, held as part of the 1st Indonesian Mining Safety (IMS) Summit 2023. The Mining Safety Poster Competition is a national level competition in the Mining Safety Competition, organized by the Indonesian Mining Safety Professional Association (APKPI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The summit took place at the Botani Square IPB International Convention Center Bogor, West Java on June 16-17 2023.
“We are very grateful and delighted to achieve this recognition. This is because the Mining Safety Poster Competition had a total of 53 participants, the majority of whom were mining industry professionals from reowned mining companies. It was unexpected for us, as we were the only participants from a university (higher education institution) among the finalists, who were mostly professionals working in the mining industry. However, we are grateful that we finally won the Favorite Champion title,” Restu said as Team Leader when contacted by uns.ac.id on Tuesday (11/7/2023).
In their poster, Restu and Rika raised the topic of enhancing Occupational Health and Safety (K3) culture in the context of the Internet of Things (IoT), which is synergized with mining safety as the key to realizing a successful mining industry in Indonesia.
“We chose this topic because of the high risk involved in mining. Therefore K3 culture, integrated with mining safety, must be deeply ingrained and constantly maintained. In addition, in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 5.0), numerous technologies connected to the internet have been developed to facilitate human activities. Utilization of such technology, including equipment, not only simplifies tasks but can enhance work effectiveness, especially monitoring and supervision in mining operations, such as the implementation of Fleet Management Systems, Drones, and others. Therefore, with a well-preserved K3 culture integrated with mining safety and assisted by the use of IoT, we can achieve a healthy, safe and productive industry,” Restu said.
Furthermore, Restu and Rika shared tips for winning this competition. The first tip is to maintain optimism within themselves. From the beginning of the competition, Restu and Rika nurtured a mindset of optimism, aiming to at least secure a place in the winner’s category. The second tip is to seek support from those around them, including parents, lecturers, professors and friends. The third tip is to pay attention to the guidelines provided in the competition guidebook. Ensure that the poster design aligns with the specified theme.
“After winning this championship, I hope it will serve as a correction and motivation to strive for continuous achievement and creativity in the future. I also hope to continually make UNS alma mater, parents, and friends around me proud,” Restu continued.
Lastly, Restu encouraged everyone not to be afraid of creating and achieving. Take the initiative rather than doing nothing at all. Don’t let your comfort zone limit you. Believe that the effort yields tangible results and that the experiences are invaluable for the future. Don’t hesitate to ask questions and seek information. Be willing to rise up thousands of times to pursue your dreams, keep striving, and continue praying to God.
“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of my friends, the D4 K3 SV UNS family who have provided full support to us, enabling us to reach this point,” Restu concluded. Humas UNS
