UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret is ready to provide free tuition fees for athletes who bring medals from Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 for Indonesia. This commitment was shared directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho.

Prof. Jamal stated that athletes who won a gold, silver, and bronze medal in the Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 could study in UNS from the undergraduate degree through the sports achievement track.

“Paralympic athletes who won medals, gold, silver, and bronze, UNS welcome (you) and provides a red carpet for athletes who won a medal, free study from undergraduate degree to doctoral degree,” Prof. Jamal stated after witnessing the departing ceremony for Indonesian Paralympic athletes by Menpora RI, Zainudin Amali, on Saturday (14/8/2021).

He added that the decision to provide free scholarships for Indonesian athletes who won a medal in the fourth-year sports event is UNS’ commitment to supporting Indonesian sports, especially for Paralympic athletes.

Prof. Jamal wants all athletes who have brought pride to Indonesia at the international stage to have access to quality education. For him, sports achievements should be supported by good academic abilities.

“We are very open to the nation’s heroes who brought pride for Indonesia. We want the best for them. Moreover, UNS has Faculty of Sports who are more than ready to welcome the Paralympic athletes,” Prof. Jamal stated.

In his statement, the Rector also congratulate the 23 athletes who were departed by the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Indonesia to Tokyo.

Prof. Jamal wanted that Indonesian athlete’s achievement in Tokyo Olympic that was just concluded to motivate Indonesian Paralympic athletes.

“I am sure you could (do this). Fight. See this as your opportunity to represent your country in the Paralympic. Be focus, don’t get easily distracted,” he added.

This year, Indonesia succeeded in getting its athletes to participate in seven sports: para-athletics, para-badminton, para-table tennis, para-swimming, para-cycling, para-powerlifting, and shooting para-sport.

Kemenpora and NPC targeted one gold medal and one silver medal from para-badminton, one bronze medal from powerlifting, one bronze medal from para table-tennis, and one bronze medal from para-athletic. Humas UNS
