UNS – A social project to recycle plastic waste was carried out by students of University of Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta who joined AIESEC in UNS, Sunday (12/08/2019). In this project, AIESEC in UNS collaborated with an environmental community in Solo which was Komunitas Kresek Solo (Solo Plastic Bag Community).
The event conducted at Kurnia Putri Orphanage in Sukoharjo invited the orphanage children to be creative by recycling plastic waste into more interesting and useful things.
“AIESEC in UNS held this social project themed Green Creation Day 2019 (GCD 2019) with the children of Kurnia Putri Orphanage. This project aims the children of Kurnia Putri Orphanage to be able to produce sustainable products that have economic value in the future,” said Organizing Committee President of GCD 2019, Anastasia Kintan.
The event was opened by the remarks from Tara Azzizah the Local Committee of External Relation Vice-President of AIESEC in UNS, Anastasia Kintan the President of Organizing Committee of GCD 2019, Rois of Komunitas Kresek Solo, and the representative of Kurnia Putri Orphanage, Bruder Ivo.
Then, the event continued with an educational session to increase public awareness by conducting a workshop in the recycling process of plastic sachets and bottles into brooches.
The activists of Komunitas Kresek Solo also participated in this event by delivering educational material about recycling plastic waste into high economic value goods. Despite to reduce the amount of plastic waste, the children were expected to earn the profit of the products.
When talked about the project, Anastasia Kintan hoped that GCD 2019 could train the children of Kurnia Putri Orphanage to express their creativity through recycling plastic waste.
“The materials discussed here are more focused on the children of Kurnia Putri Orphanage which are expected can become one of their competences in the future. In addition, AIESEC in UNS wants to support the sustainable development goals set up by the United Nations in 2015 which are Life on Land and Quality Education,” Anastasia continued.
