UNS — The Korps Sukarela (KSR-Volunteer Corps) the Indonesian Red Cross Society (PMI), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Unit, organizes health monitoring for the elderly people. This was conducted on Sunday (4/10/2020) in Kaplingan RW 20, Jebres, Surakarta. The KSR Team visited the elderly people from home to home, by keeping adhering to the health protocol.
According to the Head of the Organizing Committee, Aidah Fitriana from the Biology Education Study Program class of 2018, in her written statement explains that this activity is resumed after stopped due to the Covid-19 pandemic, since the last March. Aidah explains that this program has been running for the last 2 years.
“Before the pandemic, the program was carried out in the multipurpose building available for the community. However, because of the ongoing pandemic that does not allow the team to organize a mass meeting, thus we change the method into a door-to-door meeting,” Aidah explains.
During the activity, the KSR UNS Unit sent its 6 (six) members to implement the medical check-up. Each member will be responsible for a neighborhood region with assistance from the Community Development for the Elderly(BKL) officers. There are more than 130 elderly people who participate and get a facility to check body weight and blood pressure. This health monitoring for the elderly is important to make a healthier environment. Moreover, to overcome the health issues involving elderly people. Meanwhile, the Field Coordinator of BKL Kaplingan RW. 20, Teti Tarunamawati hopes that this activity can be implemented in various regions, in order to raise awareness concerning elderly people’s health.
“I personally, support this activity greatly because it can help check the health of the elderly people, and hopefully, this can be implemented continuously,” Teti said. Humas UNS
