UNS – In commemoration of Pancasila Sanctity Day, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta conducted flag ceremony led directly by Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho. The ceremony attended by all academic community of UNS was held at UNS Yard of dr. Prakosa Building, Tuesday (10/01/2019).
In this ceremony, Prof. Jamal said that UNS had a commitment to be “fortress and pioneer of Pancasila”. Pancasila is an ideology of Indonesia expressed as a unified process since Soekarno’s speech on 1st of June 1945 in the meetings of Committee for Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI) and Indonesian Independence Preparation Committee (PPKI) which produced Jakarta Charter on June 22, 1945. Until the last formulation on August 18, 1945. The above two phases are the unified process and the ethical foundation of agreement for all participants of the meeting.
“The rebellion act of DI/TII (Darul Islam/Indonesian Islamic Army) and G30S/PKI (September 30 Betrayal by the Indonesian Communist Party) enhance awareness that Pancasila is tough to be swayed by any group. It is because the values in the ideology are rooted in the life of Indonesian people. Through those reflections, on October 1, 2018, UNS declared as the university of ‘fortress and pioneer of Pancasila’. The declaration was a manifestation of our desire to preserve the values of Pancasila, as well as an environment that set on the national and international reputation,” Prof. Jamal remarked on his speech.
He added the establishment of UNS on 11th of March 1976 had decided pillars of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity) platform as a reference to the advancing environment. It was initially marked by the existence of various places of worship. This platform of university must be highlighted by the symbolism of ‘fortress and pioneer of Pancasila’. The symbol means UNS has a role to produce excellent human resources and contribute in development of the nation. Therefore, the tagline ‘fortress and pioneer of Pancasila’ implies that it can build a campus ecosystem for the transformation of the university.
There are five references to build the ecosystem. They are by actualizing the professionalism and welfare of human resources, accelerating the publication and innovation, accelerating the reorientation of the learning system that in line with the era of industrial revolution 4.0, developing the institution and literacy reinforcement, with optimizing the law, cooperation, and bureaucracy affairs. Those five factors are the actual ecosystem of a conducive and productive campus.
“The UNS tagline of ‘fortress and pioneer of Pancasila’ is the answer about national commitment in the era of technology and information development, even the constant improvement of the ecosystem so that we will be able to face the global issues concerning democracy, human rights, good governance, radicalism, and terrorism. On this occasion, I urge all of us to maintain the peacefulness, unity, and brotherhood of the nation. We are required to be alert to anti-Pancasila movement and ideology because we all have commitment to make the university as the ‘fortress and pioneer of Pancasila’,” Prof. Jamal stated. Humas UNS/Try
