UNS – In commemoration of the 27th World Water Day, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a lake cleanup, Saturday (1/4/2017). Initiated by Engineering Faculty (FT) UNS, the action was conducted in cooperation with Balai Besar Wilayah Sungai (BBWS) Bengawan Solo. The theme of the event was “Water and Waste Water”. The 400 participants joining included Green Campus Team of UNS and the other UNS academicians, the government of Solo, and Solo community that specializing in environmental field.
Vice Dean for Students and Alumni Affairs of FT UNS, Eko Pujiyanto, as the chief committee, invited people to have more concern on environmental issue, especially the existence and sustainability of water as a life source.
“We hope all of activities that have been done can persuade people to participate and have concern on the existence and sustainability of water. So that we can act wisely in using water,” said Eko.
Meanwhile, Sutarno, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, stated that UNS will always increase its concern on water and waste water managaement. It is supported by Instalasi Pengelolaan Air Limbah (IPAL) and Sistem Pengelolaan Air Minum (SPAM).
“We just established IPAL, the function of which is to process the waste water before flowing further. It is expected that the quality of the water is friendly for environment,” said Sutarno.
In this event, the dean of FT UNS, Sholihin As’ad, and a representative of BBWS Bengawan Solo, Yudi Pratondo, signed an autograph on “Danau UNS” declaration. The declaration contains statements (1) to agree that river is important natural resources for society (2) to be determined to support education, research, and community service focusing on water resources protection and management (3) to be able to invite people to participate in activities with concern over rivers and to be able to cooperate with others for the river sustainability (4) to protect water resources together for a better future. humas-red.uns/Fia/Eln
