UNS — Student Association of Industrial Engineering (HMTI) Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a national seminar on Electrical Sebelas Maret (EL-SEMAR) #6 under the theme of ‘Harmony in Pandemic to Innovate’. The event was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application on Saturday (9/1/2021).

EL-SEMAR invited two keynote speakers to the event, Bayu Hanantasena and Andri Yadi. The first session belongs to Bayu Hanantasena as Chief Business Officer of Indosat Ooredoo, who delivered material on Keep Growing in Pandemic with Innovation. Bayu stated that innovation is a must nowadays. Innovation is a need because it is akin to evolution and will determine the end of human civilization. “Turned out what we saw today are supported by technology, especially electro,” Bayu stated.

In the future, according to Bayu, innovation will be more massive. He also reminded everyone to master Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) because it holds the key to individual excellence. The skills regarding STEM are the essential skill amid the pandemic, which highly depends on the current technology development. In this era, only those with the technological advantage will reach the next normal era after going through the new normal era.

The following session was delivered by Andri Yadi, the CEO of DycodeX. Andri discussed the Internet of Things to Stand A Chance Against the Pandemic. To open his session, he quoted the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) statement on the definition of the Internet of Things. “Global infrastructure to provide information for the community that allows for advanced services with interconnection, namely in the form of physical and virtual forms based on existing information and communication technology and continues to develop,” Andri explained.

Andri stated that DycodeX, which he currently developed, has a personal distance monitoring system. This system has a function to detect if an individual applies correct physical distancing. There is a sensor inside the product that can detect his/her movement who use it. The tool even has a GPS to monitor the person who wears the personal distance monitoring. According to Andri, amid the pandemic surviving is about broad insight to survive and continue to innovate.

At the end of his session, Andri stated that Covid-19 is an agent of change. The new coronavirus strain has brought a challenging time for everybody. According to him, 2021 is fresh hope for people to implement their delayed projects. Following the presentation from the speakers was the question-and-answer session and closing statement. Humas UNS
