FMIPA UNS Develops Sangiran E-museum Application

UNSGrup Riset Multimedia (Multimedia Research Group) from Computer Science Diploma Program of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Faculty of Universitas Sebelas Maret (FMIPA UNS) Surakarta, which consists of lecturers and students, visited Museum Sangiran on Thursday (9/3/2017). The visit agenda was presentation of research output by research group as a follow-up to Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by Balai Pelestarian Situs Manusia dan Purba (BPSMP) Sangiran (Sangiran Early Man Site) and FMIPA UNS in previous visit.

Eko Harry Pratisto, S.T., M.Info.Tech., the team leader of Grup Riset Multimedia handed over the E-museum Sangiran developed application to BPSMP, represented by Puja from Implementation Division. The application, that was developed by Fendi Aji Purnomo, S.Si., M.Eng., helped by students of Computer Science Diploma Program of FMIPA UNS, used technology of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR).

Sangiran E-museum application with AR technology was already used in 1st and 2nd exhibiton rooms in Museum Sangiran, Krikilan cluster. The application enables the visitors to access information of exhibition objects easily with their smartphone. The interactiveness was attained by AR, which combines real objects or objects in exhibition room with virtual objects. Information feature provided in the application takes forms of text, audio, and 3D objects that can only be operated using android smartphone.

The VR technology of E-museum Sangiran application was implemented in 3rd exhibition room in Museum Sangiran, Krikilan cluster. Visitors can explore exhibition objects or landscape of the room virtually with the help of VRBOX glasses and Bluetooth joystick. Information provided in the application takes forms of 3D version of exhibition objects and audio, by which information is explained. The application with VR technology can be enjoyed using android smartphone with gyroskop censor and at least 1GB RAM memory.

The visit was ended with autograph signing of research results handover report of both parties. The application was developed as interactive media, which can hopefully be used to deliver information in innovative way to Museum Sangiran visitors by still acknowledging the copyright owned by Grup Riset Multimedia FMIPA UNS. humas-red.uns/Can/Eln/Sav
