UNS — The Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held The 3rd International Conference on Food Science and Engineering (ICFSE) 2020. The biennial Agenda is set to be held in Best Western Premier Hotel Solo Baru, on 29 – 30 September 2020. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic that hit the world, including Indonesia, the committee decided to hold it online through Zoom Meeting on the same date.
The Chairman of 3rd ICFSE 2020 Committee, Dr. Muhammad Zukhrufuz Zaman stated that the 3rd ICFSE 2020 raised the theme of “Strengthening Collaborative Frameworks for Innovations in Food Science and Engineering: Contributions to Sustainable Development Goals”.
“There are 123 research titles that will be presented and discussed by the participants from 8 countries,” Dr. Muhammad Zukhrufuz Zaman stated, Tuesday (29/9/2020).
The plenary session of the conference was delivered by respected speakers at the international level. The Keynote Speech was delivered by Prof. Dr. Ir. Umar Santoso, M.Sc., the Chairman of the Indonesian Food Technology Experts Association (Perhimpunan Ahli Teknologi Pangan Indonesia – PATPI) on the topic of “Enhancing collaborative frameworks among university, industry, and government for innovations in food science and technology: a perspective from the Indonesian association for food technologists (IAFT/PATPI)”.
Followed by the material from the invited speakers including Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S (Vice-Rector for Academic UNS), Prof. Dr. Ir. Mieke Uyttendaele (Department of Food Technology, Safety and Health, Ghent University, Belgium), Prof. Dr. Son Radu (Department of Food Science, Universiti Putra Malaysia), Dr. Sangeeta Prakash (School of Agriculture and Food Science, University of Queensland, Australia), Prof. Dr. Takahisa Nishizu (Department of Applied Life Sciences, Gifu University, Japan), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jirawat Yongsawatdigul (School of Food Technology, Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand) and Prof. Dr. Hitoshi Shirakawa (Tohoku University, Japan).
In the parallel session, sharing and dissemination of research were conducted through an oral presentation from researchers. The articles presented in the conference will go through the peer review process before published in Food Research (Scopus Indexed Journal), IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering (Scopus Indexed Proceeding), Caraka Tani: Journal of Sustainable Agriculture (DOAJ Indexed and Sinta 2 accredited).
“This event is expected to facilitate the academics, researchers, industry practitioners, government, and private institution to meet and build a collaboration to fulfil one of the points in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to reduce the number of famine and provide nutritious foods for everyone,” Dr. Muhammad Zukhrufuz Zaman added.
Further, Dr. Muhammad Zukhrufuz Zaman stated that ICFSE 2020 is also an event to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNS and Partner Institution abroad. Several speakers invited are partners and colleague UNS, particularly with the Food Technology Program FP UNS. This supports the internationalization efforts conducted by UNS and UNS plan to become an internationally recognized university.
The 3rd ICFSE 2020 was opened by the Vice-Rector for Academic UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S. Prof. Yunus stated that the challenges to reduce the hunger in Indonesia and the world is great. Therefore, anticipation and appropriate strategy are required to answer the challenge. The Dean of FP UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPM, ASEAN Eng. in his opening remark also emphasize the importance of collaboration between related parties in achieving the second SDG, hero hunger. Humas UNS
