UNS – Professor of Communication Studies of Faculty of Social and Political Science (FISIP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Dr. Widodo Muktiyo was appointed as Director-General of Public Communication Information (IKP) of the Communications and Information Ministry (Kemenkominfo) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI). Prof. Muktiyo was inaugurated directly by the Minister of Communication and Information (Kominfo) RI, Rudiantara, in the headquarter of Kemenkominfo RI, Friday (09/06/2019).

Prof. Muktiyo told reporters that this mandate was based on his competence. “I applied for this position because it is relevant to the competencies I have. I studied bachelor, master, and doctoral programs of Communication Studies and it was reinforced by my achievement as a Professor of Communication Studies in FISIP UNS. Then, it has been a long time since I became a public relation practitioner. Insha’Allah, I’m ready to carry out my new duty as the Director-General of IKP Kemenkominfo,” he explained after the inauguration in Jakarta.

After the inauguration, Prof. Muktiyo takes office in Jakarta so he should relinquish his position as the Head of the Institute of Research and Community Service (LPPM) UNS. “I have to live in Jakarta, so I must leave the top office of LPPM UNS. Potentially, I will still teach doctoral students in UNS but teaching the bachelor students is no longer possible,” he added.

During his period of time as the Head of LPPM UNS for approximately three months, he has challenged many breakthroughs. One of them is establishing a display room at the lobby of the LPPM UNS office, to reveal the research result conducted by UNS lecturers.

Moreover, Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho highly appreciated Prof. Muktiyo who currently serves as Director-General of IKP Kemenkominfo RI. It proves that academicians of UNS have exceptional proficiency to occupy Director-General position in a ministry.

“Congratulations to Prof. Muktiyo. I wish he can run his service perfectly,” he said.

In addition, to fill in the vacancy of the leader of LPPM UNS, Prof. Jamal appointed Prof. Okid Parama Astirin to handle the position. “LPPM is very crucial [institute of UNS] because it relates directly to the second and third points of three missions of university: research and community service. That is the reason why I immediately looked for the replacement because shortly, Prof. Muktiyo will be officed in Kemenkominfo,” explained Prof. Jamal in the middle of the inauguration of Prof. Okid as the Head of LPPM UNS in dr. Prakosa Building UNS, Friday (09/06).

Prof. Jamal hopes that Prof. Okid can carry on the LPPM programs. “The good programs can be improved and less can be renewed,” he concluded. Humas UNS/Try
