UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta deploys the Student Community Engagement (KKN) participants for the period of January-February 2021 on Tuesday (12/1/2021). The deployment was conducted virtually through the Zoom Cloud Meeting platform, which was attended by the Rector of UNS, the Deputy Minister for Villages, Development of Rural Areas, and Transmigration (Wamendes PDTT), and Regional Government Head representatives from selected KKN locations.
The Head of UNS Institute for Research and Community Development (LPPM), Prof. Okid Parama Astirin states that integrative thematic KKN starting on January 12th, 2021 to February 2021 will be followed by 1,444 students from 11 faculties in UNS. This event involves 70 field supervisors (lecturers). All of the students will be deployed to 17 Provinces in Indonesia with the following details: 6 Provinces and 106 Districts in Java, and 11 Provinces and 24 Districts outside Java.
“The placement is based on the students’ hometown. This decision aims to facilitate students in adjusting their program to the residents’ needs. Considering the current condition, this period of KKN will be conducted virtually and on the site,” Prof. Okid explains.
On this occasion, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, delivers a message for the students to always comply with the government appeal to comply with applicable health protocols. “The ongoing pandemic is not a reason for us to stay idle at home. Instead, through this pandemic we can create more innovations by exploring creative ideas, to make real contributions needed by our surrounding community,” Prof. Jamal states.
Furthermore, the Wamendes PDTT, Budi Arie Setiadi, S.Si. M.Si. shows his hope toward the UNS KKN Students for their contribution to the development of the rural area in Indonesia. “To pursue national development, Indonesia needs innovation from the higher education institution to be applied in the rural area. The KKN program is perfect for this objective,” said Budi Arie Setiadi.
On this occasion, Prof. Jamal handed the UNS KKN Students to the Head of Regional Government that become the KKN Program location. One of the representatives for this ceremony, the Head of Karanganyar District, Drs. Juliyatmono, M.M., expresses his happiness for the UNS KKN Program. Meanwhile, a representative from Sukoharjo District, Sukito, S.Sn., M.Si., who represents the Head of Sukoharjo District, directly states that their parties are more than ready to welcome and facilitate the KKN students in Sukoharjo.
