UNS — The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) RI Zainudin Amali bestows a mandate to Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta to support sports science application in the Great Design of National Sports (DBON). This mandate was conveyed by Zainudin Amali during his visit to the Central Java Province Student Sports Education and Training Center (BPPLOP) at the Jatidiri Sports Center (GOR) Semarang, Saturday (29/1/2022) afternoon. “In DBON, sports science become the basis in athletes coaching. It is impossible to develop national sport quality in today’s era without sports science,” he said. He added that sports science support in DBON is an important pillar that needs universities support.
Further, Zainudin Amali pointed out that sports science is an inseparable part of a country’s sports achievement progress in this modern era. He wants the sports development center in Central Java Province to synergize with UNS and Semarang State University (Unnes) to develop sports science. “Those who understand sports science are none other than academics members of a university,” he said.
As for UNS, Zainudin Amali specifically entrusts paralympic athletes coaching in Surakarta. This decision is based on the proximity of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC) and the National Training Center location to the UNS Kentingan main campus. Additionally, UNS also has experience supervising paralympic athletes. Later on, UNS is expected to collaborate with Unnes that was appointed by the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports to foster athletes preparing for the Olympics.
“For the Paralympics, we have UNS that will be ready to support sports science. So far, UNS has assisted numerous athletes with great achievements. Moreover, the President has bestowed directions to establish a nearby training camp in Karanganyar. Yesterday I reviewed the selected location, while the Ministry of PUPR will immediately follow up on the infrastructure construction,” explained Zainudin Amali.
On the other hand, DBON is a new paradigm to nurture the national athletes’ achievements that must be perfected. Sports science is one of the crucial pillars in DBON. These pillars need to be synergized with faculties specialized in sports education at credible and reputable universities.
UNS participation in DBON was declared by Zainudin Amali during the dissemination of Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 86 of 2021 on Sunday (28/11/2021). This special event, which was attended by the Mayor of Surakarta Gibran Rakabuming Raka and the Chair of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee (NPC) Senny Marbun, was opened directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho.
Prof. Jamal states that the dissemination of Presidential Decree No. 86/2021 aims to promulgate the national sports development plan aspired by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), thus, improving national athletes achievements in the international arena.
“This DBON serves as guidelines or instruction on the direction and policy for integration and collaboration to improve the nation’s competitiveness at the international sports level, as well as fostering and developing national sports in the long term,” said Prof. Jamal. Humas UNS
