UNS — Karisma Evi Tiarani, national para-athletic athlete, and Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta student will compete in the national sports championship. Evi, her nickname, participates in the National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) 2021 in Papua from 2—15 November 2021.

Evi planned to compete in the 100 meters T42 class and stated that she is optimistic about winning a gold medal despite the limited training caused by self-quarantine regulation on her upon returning from Tokyo Paralympic 2020 in October. “During the quarantine, we did not have the training, only maintaining our condition in the room,” the Communication Science Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UNS student stated.

With Limited Training Schedule, Karisma Evi Optimistic to Win Gold in Peparnas 2021

In the Tokyo Paralympic 2020, Evi, who is classified as a T42 class runner, needed to compete with other runners from the T63 class because only two athletes from her class passed the qualification. This policy was not favorable for Evi because of the difference in the level of disability between the two runner classifications. However, she managed to give a stunning performance with a time record of 14.83 seconds in the elimination round that brought her to the final round and to be the only T42 runner in the final. Unfortunately, she couldn’t win a medal after finishing in the fourth position with a 14.83-second record.

With Limited Training Schedule, Karisma Evi Optimistic to Win Gold in Peparnas 2021

The 20 years old student admitted that she was not satisfied with her achievement in the Paralympic because she failed to break her own record in Dubai Para-athletics World Championship 2019 that stands at 14.72 seconds.

In the Peparnas 2021, Evi sets a target to break her best record and to bring home a gold medal for her province, Central Java.

“Target to break my personal record and win a gold medal. It is quite hard to be honest because of the limited training, but I will keep trying,” Evi concluded.

With Limited Training Schedule, Karisma Evi Optimistic to Win Gold in Peparnas 2021

Besides Evi, four other UNS students will also compete in Peparnas 2021. They are Nanda Mei Sholikah (FKOR), Marcelino Saputra (FKOR), Figo Saputra (FKOR), and Ni Made Ariyanti Putri (FKIP). Humas UNS
