UNS — The latest survey conducted by Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and Universitas Bangka Belitung (UBB) on community acceptance over the development of Thorium Power Plant (PLTT) in Bangka Belitung (Babel) Province shows that 73% of the community agreed with the development.
“After conducting research and survey, we concluded that Babel community agrees with the development of PLTT with a total of 73.73,” UNS Secretary, Dr. Drajat Tri Kantoro stated in the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held online with the Provincial Government of Babel, on Thursday (12/8/2021).
In this matter, researchers from both universities found that the community agreed toward the construction of the PLTT because they want the new power plant to create new job opportunities for the local community.
“They also hope for a stability of staple food price stability, guaranteed business development, improved income and purchasing power for Babel community, and guaranteed electric supply and sufficient electric facilities,” he added.
On the same occasion, the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo, mentioned that Thorium processed through the PLTT that is planned to be established in the ‘1001 coffeeshops city’ is the future of Indonesia.
The reason being Thorium as a safety, cheap, and environmentally friendly renewable energy.
“In the future, after the survey study, (we will make efforts to) synergize UNS, UBB, and ThorCon International Pte. Ltd as the developer of PLTT in Babel,” Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo explained. Humas UNS
