UNS<\/strong> – To improve the quality of education, FKIP UNS conducted the world’s best education benchmarking in Finland at Kasavuori Secondary School and Faculty of Education, University of Helsinki which was carried out for a week started from Sunday (8\/5\/2018). The visitors were the Dean of FKIP UNS, Joko Nurkamto, accompanied by the chairman of Quality Assurance Unit FKIP UNS, Triyanto.<\/p>\n

The purpose was to discuss with teachers and principals as well as to observe the classroom learning process in Finland as the country with the best education system in the world. The next plan is to send lecturers and prospective students to apprenticeship in educational institutions in Finland as part of the FKIP UNS participation in supporting UNS to be the World Class University. This activity was also supported by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Helsinki.<\/p>\n

The results showed that there are two basic educational principles in Finland namely equity and trust. Finland education gives all students the equal access to achieve a good education. Schools facilitate students whose families are unable to utilize technology in the classroom with the materials they need. Moreover, socioeconomic and racial status does not affect student education.<\/p>\n

Teachers in Finland required to accomplish Masters degree before teaching. Those teachers also have class autonomy in implementing the curriculum. There are no national exams in Finland, but teachers are trusted to assess their students’ progress. Finland has its own national curriculum; most importantly, the teachers are very autonomous in carrying out the teaching and learning process.<\/p>\n

The Finland educational system greatly emphasizes the balance between the left brain and the right brain. Arts lessons such as painting, music art, and craft art are included into compulsory materials. Moreover, students are also equipped with life skills such as sewing and cooking.
