{"id":15410,"date":"2020-01-13T08:32:41","date_gmt":"2020-01-13T01:32:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uns.ac.id\/en\/?p=15410"},"modified":"2020-01-13T08:32:41","modified_gmt":"2020-01-13T01:32:41","slug":"the-centre-for-disaster-studies-of-lppm-uns-emphasized-the-importance-of-integrated-ews","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uns.ac.id\/en\/the-centre-for-disaster-studies-of-lppm-uns-emphasized-the-importance-of-integrated-ews\/","title":{"rendered":"The Centre for Disaster Studies of LPPM UNS Emphasized the Importance of Integrated EWS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>UNS<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 The Centre for Disaster Studies (Pusat Studi Bencana &#8211; PSB) of The Institute for Research and Community Engagement (Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat &#8211; LPPM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta provided a recommendation to the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta concerning the flooding that hit the capital city for three days. The recommendation is delivered directly by the PSB researcher, Sorja Koesuma.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In preparing flood prevention measures, Sorja Koesuma, suggested that the Jakarta government installs an Integrated Flood Early Warning System (iFEWS). With the installation of this system, Sorja Koesuma believes that the Jakarta government will be able to monitor the level of river water and the intensity of rainfall.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201ciFEWS consists of four sensors, first, a sensor for river level that can be installed on the rivers which flow into Jakarta. This tool is useful to monitor the river level. Second, a sensor for water level at the dam or reservoir that is used to collect runoff water from upstream. The data can be used in the Katulampa dam to compute the water level. Third, a sensor for rainfall. This gauge is installed in several upstream and downstream locations. The data collected from the third sensor can be used to estimate the volume of water that will enter Jakarta. Lastly, a sensor for groundwater level,\u201d expressed Sorja.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The data collected from the four sensors in iFEWS can then be reproduced as needed and sent through a real-time telemetry data delivery system to the National Board for Disaster Management (Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana &#8211; BNPB). Thus, the level of danger from all watersheds (Daerah Aliran Sungai &#8211; DAS) flowing from upstream to downstream in Jakarta can be determined. There are four levels of danger in iFEWS: normal, low danger, moderate danger, and high danger. With this system, it is hoped that the Jakarta government will be able to reduce the risk of casualties and material losses because there is an early warning for people to evacuate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Besides utilizing iFEWS, Sorja reminded that the preparation of the Disaster Mitigation Plan (Rencana Penanggulangan Bencana &#8211; RPB) and Contingency Plan (Rencana Kontijensi &#8211; Renkon) for flood are very important. This will synergize each district\/city passed by all rivers that will enter Jakarta in implementing RPB and Renkon when flooding occurs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cAnother action that needs to be done to reduce and overcome floods is by preparing RPB and flood Renkon documents. These documents must be prepared together with all districts\/cities passed by rivers that will enter Jakarta. Thirteen rivers pass Jakarta and flow into Jakarta Bay. After these documents are prepared, all-district\/cities passed by the rivers must be committed to implementing RPB and Renkon when flooding occur. Flooding cannot be solved only in upstream or downstream areas.
