UNS <\/strong>– Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta graduated a new physician from the Papua affirmation program. The new physician is Lisye Elsina Kareni who inaugurated and be sworn on Wednesday (22\/4\/2020) in the Faculty of Medical Science Faculty (FK) UNS Hall.<\/p>\n

In a press conference conducted online on Thursday (23\/4\/2020), Lisye Elsina Kareni stated that for her to be graduated as a physician is not an easy struggle. Lisye admitted that she went to a hard struggle to be graduated as a physician from FK UNS.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was admitted to FK UNS in 2013, I completed my bachelor of medical science in 2017. Then on August 2019, I passed the co-assistant. And I have to take the Physician Student Competency Program Examination (Uji Kompetensi Mahasiswa Program Profesi Dokter – UKMPPD). I participated in UKMPPD three times until I can be inaugurated and sworn as a physician,\u201d Lisye said.<\/p>\n

Lisye added that when she took her first UKMPPD, she did not pass. Then in her second UKMPPD, again, she did not pass. From that point, Lisye said that she did not give up, she did her best to be able to go back to Papua as a physician.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can study in the medical program using the state\u2019s fund; thus, I am ashamed if I do not pass as a physician. Until finally I keep trying, and on my third UKMPPD I passed. This is all thanks to God and of course prayers from parents and the people of Papua. For (my) friends and junior, I ask you to never give up to pursue an aspiration,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

After achieving the physician title, Lisye wants to practice her knowledge and devote herself to Papua. \u201cI want to go back to Papua and devote myself there. Because I can gain this physician degree thanks to the support from Papua government. I even have a dream and hope that I can take a medical specialist program,\u201d Lisye wished.<\/p>\n

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho hopes that the graduate of the affirmation program can serve her hometown. \u201cBecause doctor Lisye is from Jayapura, Papua, then I wish (she) can serve there so she can advance the health service there. Even more so in this COVID-19 pandemic, the role of a physician is very much needed as the frontline in handling COVID-19,\u201d Prof. Jamal stated.<\/p>\n

The Head of the Department of Education, Library and Regional Archives (Dinas Pendidikan, Perpustakaan dan Arsip Daerah – PPAD) Papua Province, Christian Sohilait who participated in the online press conference congratulate doctor Lisye who has completed her physician education. He conveyed that Papua is very short of health workers, especially doctors. \u201cTherefore, with the graduation of one of our (Papua) daughters, doctor Lisye, could devote herself to Papua and help health services here,\u201d Christian stated.<\/p>\n

Christian wishes after Lisye is graduated from UNS, she is not the last Papua students who can achieve physician title from UNS. He hopes that there are still many Papuan children who can study at UNS. \u201cI express my gratitude to UNS that has educated our children,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo added that doctor Lisye is the first physician from UNS who graduated from Papua Affirmation Program. \u201cHopefully doctor Lisye can motivate other Papuan children to study at UNS,\u201d Prof. Kuncoro stated.
