Different from Bali or Bunaken, Lasem has uniqueness on its heritage buildings and batik production houses that have rooted deeply besides those of Batik Solo, Yogyakarta, or Pekalongan.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Lasem city landscape is formed by the Tionghwa settlement along the north coast of Java island. In the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century, the city is well known as Bandar Candu (Craving City) which is an important city for the colonial government. The city is then developed into a trade city that lives up to today with its Lasem batik industry.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As many as 240 historical buildings in Lasem China town have the mix Indische colonial style as a residential and batik production site have been converted into lodging, boutique, museum, coffee shop, and restaurant, which gives tourists different feels when they visit Lasem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">However, due to the uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic, Lasem tourism is dimmed. There are now little tourists who visit to buy batik or staying in the town.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Considering the dim pulse of Lasem tourism, the Chief of Urban-Rural Design and Conservation Laboratory (URDC Labo) Architectural Engineering Program Faculty of Engineering (FT) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah, suggested virtual tourism in the historic area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cIn the pandemic and embracing the new normal, it affects Lasem tourism. To appreciate the heritage buildings in the city can be done through a virtual tour program which can be managed by the local community that focuses on the issues concerning heritage buildings and travel agency,\u201d Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah stated as a speaker in the #SharingStory of Lasem: the Story of City Landscape and Batik House Strategy in the New Normal Challenge, with Rudi Siswanto from Rumah Batik Kidang Mas Lasem (Kidang Mas Lasem Batik House).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the webinar held by National Geographic Indonesia, @kesengsemlasem, and @ideaonline, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah stated that virtual tourism in Lasem can be packaged by making a detailed simulation of the location, both in the form of video\/photo arrangement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">To attract visitor\u2019s interest and provides a real experience of Lasem virtual tour, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah also conveyed that it requires the elements of multimedia, such as sounds and texts during the virtual tour.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cThis is what makes virtual tour can be used as a tele-tourism tool. What interesting from it is selling the experience of feelings that bring in its local feelings. Thus, a well-designed concept to pack the virtual tour and present testimonials from local people,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The virtual tour suggested by Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah can help the economic actors in Lasem to educate tourists about the architectural values of a heritage building in Lasem Chinatown which is very unique and can promote businesses that rely on batik production, culinary, and other souvenirs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Several benefits will be gained by tourists who accessed the virtual tour. Among others are the cost-saving side because tourists do not need to come directly to the location, it can be accessed anywhere, can be adjusted to tourist\u2019s time, and give a different and unforgettable impression for tourists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Guided by Mahandis Yoanata Thamrin who is the Managing Editor of National Geographic Indonesia and Akhmad Juanda, the Managing Editor IDEA, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah conveyed the reasons why Lasem has a historic city landscape as a historic and iconic Chinatown cluster.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cLasem city is not just Candu (crave) but also Batik city. We can see in Babakan area and the growth of Chinatown residences there.
