Bringing up the theme on \u2018Developing Millennial Farmer to Support Food Resilience\u2019 the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, held an online discussion on Saturday (6\/6\/2020) using Zoom Meeting. The collaborative event between FP UNS and Indonesian Agronomy Association (Peragi) Central Java, is attended by participants from various regions across Indonesia through UNS Youtube channel.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As mentioned by the moderator, Dr. Ir. Eddy Triharyanto, MP., there are three speakers for the event, they are Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Pujiasmanto, MS., (Lecturer of FP UNS and the Chair of Peragi Komda Jawa Tengah), Dr. Ir. Puji Harsono, MP (Lecturer of FP UNS and Cabe Merah (Red Chili Business Practitioner), and Widodo, S.TP (Supervisor of Farmer and Millennial Farmer). Also present during the discussion is the Dean of FP UNS Prof. Dr. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si, and other FP lecturers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As an agrarian country, farming activities have become a common thing. Following the development of the agricultural field, there are various new terms introduced one of them is Millennial Farmer. According to Agricultural Counseling and Human Resource Development Agency (BPPSDMP), the definition of the millennial farmer is farmers aged 19-30 years, have an adaptive millennial spirit in understanding the digital technology, therefore are not rigid in carrying out identification and verification. Farmers have an important role in strengthening food resilience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">However, this matter has not fully understood, where the stigma of becoming a farmer is not a prospective career. This is where education takes place to educate society and preparing experts in the agriculture sector. One of the strategies that can be implemented to encourage the birth of millennial farmers is by involving the students\/alumni\/youngster to intensify the program as well as escorting on agricultural activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">As mentioned by Dr. Ir. Puji Harsono, MP., currently UNS has conducted assistance to millennial farmers in Cabeyan Village, Sukoharjo Regency. The region is known as a dry land that hard to cultivate due to lack of water supply. However, through various methods and efforts, UNS has successfully earned support from a national culinary company to empower the land. Chili is chosen as the crop developed in the region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cHopefully, in the end, we can develop a community group who active on cultivating the dry land,\u201d said Dr. Ir. Puji Harsono, MP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Another story shared by a farmer activist in Sambungmacan region, Sragen, Widodo, S.TP. He shares his experience with the community in the region, with 10 millennial farmers. The farmers have their own specialization among others are Ninel grapes specialists, hydroponic specialists, and rice seed transplanter specialists.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cWe try to establish a concept for plant therapy based on requested service,\u201d said Widodo, S.TP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The concept of Requested Plant Therapy is sparked due to recurring complaints from the society regarding a newly bought plant that initially bears fruit but after being cultivated for a year to two years the plant does not bear any more fruit. This inspires Widodo, S.TP to initiate the program. All materials delivered by the speakers are received well by the participants.
