Kusumaningdyah, become one of the speakers in a Webinar of Celebrating 20 Years of Master Program in Trisakti University (USAKTI) Master Program, entitled \u2018Urban Settlement Planning: Kampung Kota Research in Jakarta, Solo, and Malang\u2019, Saturday (6\/6\/2020).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Along with Dr. Dina Poerwiningsih, a lecturer from the Master program at Universitas Merdeka Malang (Unmer) and Dr. MI Ririk Winandari, the Head of Master in Architecture Program in Usakti, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah discusses urban settlement planning by combining the role of city residents, government, community, and academicians.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the webinar with 350 participants through Zoom Cloud Meeting and an additional 800 participants through Youtube live streaming, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah presents her material entitled \u2018Participation in the Design of Public Spaces in Kampung Kota\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cIn the Architectural Engineering Program, we offer an elective course in Kampung Kota since 2014 and until now. We learn in the Kampung Kota region, which initially only did participatory mapping. However, this was followed with networking with NGO \u2018Rujak, Jakarta\u2019 on 2-years research under a project Citizen Urbanism, which allows us to learn a lot of method and concept on design participation from 8 other cities that become a case in agenda for change in each city,\u201d explains Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah opening her material.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">According to Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah, regarding the agenda for change, each citizen of a city has a right to expand their knowledge and ideas on their city. Moreover, she mentions that the sustainability and future of the city depend on the ability of the city to absorb and utilize their will, creativity, and contribution of each of its citizens.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah, who is a lecturer from the Architectural Engineering program FT UNS and activist of Kesengsem Lasem and a member of Expert Team in Independent City Assessment of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy \/ Tourism and Creative Economy Agency, mentioned the design participation projects that are being and have been carried out since 2016 -2020 along with URDC Labo (Kampung Kota teaching team) and the students of Architectural Engineering program FT UNS.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u201cOur project file in 2016 includes the development of public facilities such as the communal Bath Wash Toilet in Kampung Butuh, Gandekan Village RT 05\/RW 03. In 2017 there is a development of public facilities, such as child-friendly public spaces in Kelurahan Gandekan RT 02\/ RW 06. This is design participation using the \u2018Place Making\u2019 method,\u201d she revealed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Other than that, in 2018, URDC Labo together with the students of Architectural Engineering FT UNS, adds an advocation on plastic waste management \u2018Eco Brick\u2019 during their project in kampung Sewu, Jebres, Solo. This program involves the children in Kampung Kota that divided into several stages, Stage I \u2018Place Making Method\u2019, Stage II \u2018Pop Up Modeling\u2019, Stage III \u2018Focus Group Discussion\u2019, Stage IV \u2018Eco-brick Workshop\u2019, and Stage V \u2018Design Action\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In 2019, the design participation project in responding to the concept from the Environmental Office entitle the movement to build the concept of Kampung Iklim Solo City. Therefore, the assignment for the Kampung Kota course is to conduct a design participation process and recommending on the physical building of \u2018Greenopy in Kampung Sangkrah\u2019 into its design action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">2020 become a year with a huge challenge. However, by collaborating with Solo Community Architecture (<em>Arsitektur Komunitas Solo-<\/em>ARKOM Solo), the design participation in Kampung Kota can keep going. The advocation toward the COVID-19 pandemic and design response on the making of &#8220;<em>padasan<\/em>&#8221; tailored to the needs of Kampung Metal and Kenteng, Semanggi became the design action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">When asked about the method of approach to the kampung Kota resident, related to the project preparation, Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah explains the method to establish communication with the stakeholders, thus the project can be accepted. \u201cEstablish communication when meeting the community leader to avoid rejection. It should be in line with the city government program if we build an in-line communication with the government the communication is very helpful. This because the collaborator is clear, there is a grand design, and the academicians can help on a small scale that can be in line with government design programs,\u201d explains Dr. Eng. Kusumaningdyah.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">At the end of the webinar, the Moderator of Webinar, Punto Wijayanto, ST, MT, Secretary of the Architectural Study Program Usakti, delivers some point as the closing remarks. First, urban settlement planning using the participatory approach is a way to prioritize needs and provide solutions for city residents. Moreover, various models such as self-subsistent mapping, placemaking, and the use of technology continue to be developed to reach full community participation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Second, each kampung needs a different approach according to its characteristics. For instance, UNS shows a good strategy for involving children as a group that is often not reached in village structuring projects.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Third, the challenge in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic is to optimize the use of information technology. Moreover, integrating health issues in urban planning and development also requires further research and action.
