Maiyang Resmanti, a student at her 4th-semester study, has just won the 2nd place in the national short story writing competition on 21 May. The competition was organized by Scout Student Activity Unit (UKM Pramuka), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) Universitas Negeri Semarang.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Maiyang states that she does not expect to win. \u201cInitially, I was not too hopeful because I haven&#8217;t written a short story in a long time. Usually, only write a short story when there is a college assignment,\u201d she reveals when interviewed by uns.ac.id on Thursday (4\/6\/2020).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The competition is held online since last May. After going through the registration process on 1-14 May, the juries assess participants&#8217; work on 15-20 May. Then, on 21 May, the assessment result was announced through UKM Pramuka FMIPA UNNES Instagram account and website http:\/\/mipa.unnes.ac.id\/guslat\/.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The pandemic that has hit Indonesia for the past three months lead to restrictions on outdoor activities. Not only a few people got bored and fed up, including Maiyang. She dispelled the boredom by writing short stories that she participated in the competition. An idea to dispel boredom leads to luck.<br \/>\n\u201cOne of the reasons that made me participate in this competition is to dispel boredom. During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are not allowed to go anywhere. Therefore, I express that boredom through this short story,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The short story she wrote brings up the idea of a Strong Woman. Maiyang carries the local culture of Sintren which is a traditional art on the North Coast of Java as the background for her short story. Not to forget, she also added the issue of feminism indirectly in her work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Maiyang hopes that she will be able to use her free time to participate in other competitions. \u201cHopefully, I can deliver works from simple ideas around us.
