{"id":16837,"date":"2020-07-03T18:00:13","date_gmt":"2020-07-03T11:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uns.ac.id\/en\/?p=16837"},"modified":"2020-07-03T14:52:19","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T07:52:19","slug":"excellence-uns-alumni-serves-the-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uns.ac.id\/en\/excellence-uns-alumni-serves-the-nation\/","title":{"rendered":"Excellence: UNS Alumni Serves the Nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>UNS<\/strong> \u2013 The alumni of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta do not serve only the Java but also many other places outside of Java. Alumni Association (IKA) UNS held a webinar on Wednesday (1\/7\/2020) that invited 11 alumni UNS who are serving the interior of the motherland.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The webinar titled <em>Wedangan<\/em> IKA UNS was opened by the Vice-Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs UNS, Prof. Kuncoro Diharjo. \u201cI appreciate this webinar. I am sure that <em>Wedangan<\/em> IKA UNS will bring benefits by sharing stories from all the invited speakers,\u201d Prof. Kuncoro stated in an opening remark for the event held through Zoom Cloud Meetings application.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">One of the invited speakers, Eny Dewi, UNS alumni who currently working in Sambas, Kalimantan Barat as a supervisor for Senior High School (SMA), Vocational Senior High School (SMK), and Special School (SLB). Ideally, a supervisor should supervise a maximum of three schools, but due to the limitation in Human Resources, she is supervising 22 schools in eight sub-districts. Eny works in the border of Borneo, Paloh and Sajingan Besar sub-district. During the pandemic, students take the turn to come to school to take assignments and share them with their friends. The main transportation used by Eny is a canoe. During her service, Eny has achieved several achievements, for example, during her service in Jelimpo sub-district, she received an award from Landak District government for the advancement in education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The next alumni, Dwi Prasetyo, shared his story from his service in Muara Wahau, Kalimantan Timur. The alumnus from the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS year of 1980 retold a story of his service in the heart of Borneo. In Muara Wahau, Dwi started everything from zero, he changed forest into a plantation. He and his friends together with the local government and the local community fixed the infrastructures, which do not benefit his company alone, but also the community.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Hari Nurdin shared his experiences in Raja Ampat, Papua, after Dwi Prasetyo. Hari admitted that before arriving in his workplace, he needed at least half a day of the trip. A live-in the border has many limitations, but the natural scenery in Raja Ampat is indeed extraordinary. \u201cWhen someone has to move, they need to prepare their body and their mentality,\u201d Hari stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The fourth speaker, Mona came from Ngabang, Landak. She shared her story as Early Childhood Education (PAUD) teacher trainer in Landak. The alumnus of English Language Education Program admitted that she needs 3-8 hours of travel to reach her workplace. Even so, she continues to serve for more advanced education. Another story came from Juli Susilo, an alumnus of Sports Program (POK) has to take 150 KM travel to his workplace in the middle of a literal forest. Currently, he is a headmaster and sometimes as admin, treasurer, and teacher.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Next story came from Prihatin who serves in Teluk Bintuni, Papua. She admitted that the locals are friendly. Even though sometimes she feels sad that she has to be parted from her family. She needs almost one day to reach her workplace using ship followed by fibre. After that, she needs to take a two hours ojek trip. Another challenge for the teacher in the remote area is children\u2019s learning speed which demands extra efforts from teachers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Ririh Yulia who serves in Sungkup, Lamandau, is an alumnus of Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program, told that the first time she arrived in Sungkup, there was no electricity, so she and her friends decided to collect money to buy a Genset. Ririh admitted that Sungkup people have high solidarity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Supardi, the next speaker, conveyed his story in Nunukan, Kalimantan Utara (Kaltara). Supardi is an alumnus of Mechanical Engineering (PTM) Program decided to become an entrepreneur in cultivation. He admitted that life in Kaltara is interesting even though education is not as stable as Java. Thus, he stated that opportunity is wide open for UNS alumni who want to try their luck in Kaltara.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Arief Wicaksono from Delang, Kalimantan Tengah shared his story of difficult communication due to minimal signal. The alumnus of FP UNS admitted that life in Borneo is not as scary as people often said. Nasrul Aidi from Jantho, Aceh, an alumnus of PTM program, currently work as a motorcycle engineering teacher at SMK. He admitted that students were relatively hard to control, and teachers have to step of their way and pick students from their houses. Lastly, Sucipto from Numfor, Biak, Papua conveyed his story during his stay when there was no signal and electricity. He also stated that Papua is not as scary as media represents it.
