{"id":17457,"date":"2020-08-20T08:00:54","date_gmt":"2020-08-20T01:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uns.ac.id\/en\/?p=17457"},"modified":"2020-08-19T13:26:32","modified_gmt":"2020-08-19T06:26:32","slug":"uns-pkm-team-encourage-pojok-villagers-to-optimize-the-role-of-waste-bank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uns.ac.id\/en\/uns-pkm-team-encourage-pojok-villagers-to-optimize-the-role-of-waste-bank\/","title":{"rendered":"UNS PKM Team Encourage Pojok Villagers to Optimize the Role of Waste Bank"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>UNS<\/strong> &#8212; The Team of Community Partnership Program (Program Kemitraan Masyarakat &#8211; PKM) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held socialization on \u201cOptimization of \u2018Beraksi\u2019 Waste Bank as a Social and Economic Engineer with Waste Commodification of Creative and Commercial Value\u201d for the community in Selo, Pojok Village, Tawangsari Sub-District, Sukoharjo District, Monday (11\/8\/2020).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The socialization is held to invite the people in optimizing the role of the waste bank as social engineering agent by improving community behavior in handling waste, and as economic engineering agent through the commodification of organic and an-organic waste into a new, high-value commodity capable of generating financial returns. The team led by Rysca Indreswari, S.Pt., M.Si and Dr. Muhammad Rustamaji, S.H., M.H., Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, S.Sn., M.Sn., and Irsyadul Ibad, S.AB., M.Ed., M.Si. as members, collaborated with Beraksi Waste Bank because this waste bank has not been utilized to its optimum capacity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The waste bank has common activities like other waste banks. However, since introduced to the community in 2012, this waste bank has not reached an optimum development, despite its potential to be social engineering agent in changing people paradigm in waste management. Waste is a national and important issue in the environmental problem. Every year, its volumes will continue to increase together with people consumerism and the floods of conventional products. In the socialization attended by more than 50 villagers, Rustamaji explained how to optimize the role of the waste bank as social engineering agent, the utilization of organic waste as compost and planting media, and utilization of glass bottles as creative products.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the training session, the team invited Faculty Member of the Faculty of Agriculture (FP) UNS, Mercy Bientri Yunindanova, S.P., M.Si as a speaker, shared knowledge with the villagers on compost materials, such as leaves, straw, cow manure, and organic waste from the kitchen. She also assisted and practicing the process of making compost. During this training, villagers looked enthusiastic in practicing how to make compost.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">On the occasion, Dyah Yuni Kurniawati, M.Sn delivered material on creating unique, artistic, and creative products from the glass bottle. She stated that the glass bottle is selected because it has a low selling point, which has caused a problem for the waste bank. There are special techniques to process glass bottles into a creative and interesting product, such as decoupage, printing, and painting techniques. With creativity, the bottles can be used as decoration or containers.
