This is mostly related to the emergence of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) and the Kampus Merdeka policy. In 2018, the discussion regarding IR 4.0 start to gain attention in Indonesia. In summary, the IR 4.0 includes the Internet of Things (IoT) system, a system that has the ability to connect and facilitate the communication process between humans and devices, machines and sensors via the internet network. Within IR 4.0, the involvement of Big Data (a system that allows all information to be saved, analyzed, and distributed in the cloud system) is crucial. Aside from the IoT and Big Data, Artificial Intelligent (AI) become one of the products of IR 4.0. Facing this phenomenon, the education sector is required to include IR 4.0 in their curriculum, both in the material and learning method, thus the students are ready to face the dynamic development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Aside from IR 4.0, the education sector also needs to adapt to the Merdeka Belajar Program initiated by the Minister of Education and Culture at the end of 2019. At the university level, Merdeka Belajar is better known as the Kampus Merdeka program. One of the four pillars of the Kampus Merdeka is freedom for students to enroll in courses provided by other study programs or even other universities. While the preparation for the Kampus Merdeka is not yet finished, the education sector is shocked by the Covid-19 pandemic. The ongoing condition requires the education sector to change its learning method into the online system. The Covid-19 pandemic also leads to a new phenomenon in the education sector namely the online seminar event or better known as Webinar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Even though the improvement of online learning quality and methods must be done continuously, the pandemic unconsciously has accelerated the adjustment of the education sector to meet the demands of IR 4.0 development. However, besides the challenges of improving online teaching methods, education institutions have to face the challenge to reconstruct their curriculum to be able to implement the Kampus Merdeka Program according to the direction of the Ministry of Education and Culture.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><strong>Webinar as Merdeka Belajar Media <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The emergence of webinar activities, basically, is beneficial for many parties. For the participants, the amount of webinar hosted in an education institution, provide the widest possible opportunity to access useful knowledge from experts in their fields. Moreover, most of the webinars can be attended for free, both that provide e-certificate and not. For the organizing committee, webinars can be used as the tools to share the knowledge that is beneficial to the community. Organizing webinars can also be strategically used to promote an organizing institution\/committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Within the Merdeka Belajar context, broad access to knowledge actually provides &#8220;independence&#8221; for students to get the interesting knowledge they need. In other words, this euphoria actually provides a new opportunity and alternative for implementing Kampus Merdeka. Higher education institutions can make the most of this moment. However, to be able to implement webinars as one of the Merdeka Belajar or Kampus Merdeka, some aspects need to be adjusted by organizers or universities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The adjustments are 1) Certificate should be awarded to webinar participants, that mentions the number of hours as well as the topics covered by each webinar speaker; 2) certificates issued by the organizer need to have a certificate series number for each participant to facilitate administration and tracking, alternatively, a barcode or QR code can be included, which linked on a website that lists the names of the webinar participants; 3) webinar organizers should also organize activities or raise topics that have a specific comparative advantage compared to other organizers, especially from similar institutions\/agencies or on a par.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">For a higher education institution, the response toward webinar potential should be realized immediately. Responding to this, a university must, first, establish a regulation to recognize students\u2019 participation in a webinar as their credit. For instance, if 1 (one) credit semester is equal to 50 minutes of scheduled face to face or direct lecture, 50 minutes of structured academic, and 60 minutes of independent activity, therefore, 1 credit semester is equal to 160 minutes of learning activities per week per semester (1 semester= 16 weeks). Hence, within a semester, a student must study for 2,560 minutes or 42 hours, this means that if a student has joined a webinar with a total 42 hours session, the activity can be recognized as 1-semester credit. Second, higher education institutions need to establish a Standard Operation and Procedure (SOP) for webinar recognition, immediately. As an example, to be able to get recognized, there are several criteria to be met, such as students need to prepare a report on the webinar followed, accompanied by a certificate and flyer from the webinar. Moreover, students need to be supervised by academic supervisors (in this case it can be assigned to the Academic Advisor) during the report preparation and tested by the examiner after getting permission from the study program (Prodi) or faculty. Third, universities need to prepare an assessment instrument of examinations conducted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Thus, the Covid-19 pandemic has created new euphoria and traditions in the education sector, namely organizing various webinars. This favorable tradition, according to the author, deserves to be preserved. Apart from being an acceleration tool for IR 4.0 curriculum, this virtual activity has the potential to accelerate the implementation of the Kampus Merdeka Program.
