This event was held online on Friday \u2013 Sunday (25-27\/9\/2020) through Zoom Meeting application. This event raised the theme of Sustainable use of Biological and Environmental Resources: Emerging Novel Research in Life Science and Education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The first IFoLSE was participated by 34 institutions that consist of two foreign universities; Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Nara Institut of Science and Technology and 32 national institutions. The local institutions that participated in the event were, among others Purwodadi Botanic Garden, Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia &#8211; LIPI), and tens of public and private universities in Indonesia. Attending the occasion, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ahmad Yunus who also opened the international forum.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The eight invited speakers in the international conference were Prof. Shukor Md. Nor (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia), Prof. Silvia Wen-Yu Lee (National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan), Prof. Lee Yew Jin (National Institute of Education, Singapore), Prof. Suranto (Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia), Assoc. Prof. Yoshida Sosuke (Nara Institute of Science and Technology, Jepang), Dr. Jeffrine Rovie Ryan Japning (Department of Wild Life and National Parks, Malaysia), Dr. Mohammad Saiful Mansor (Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia), and Murni Ramli, Ed.D. (Universitas Sebelas Maret, Indonesia).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In his presentation, Prof. Shukor from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia delivered material on Recent Challenge in Opportunity of Wild Life and Biodiversity Conservation. Prof Shukor stated that natural habitat is important in the sustainability of biological diversity. The size of habitat and diversity affect the diversity, a larger habitat with more diversity will provide more room for diversity to develop. Which is why habitat protection is crucial for conservation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The next speaker in the first day was Prof. Shosuke Yoshida, Ph.D from Institute for Research Initiatives, Japan who delivered material on Bioprospection of Plastic Degrading Bacteria for the Sustainable Environment. Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastics are saturated chemical substance which becomes an obstacle in the biological degradation process. Around 56 million tons of PET produced around the world in 2013 were used for clothes, plastic bottles, and other products which encourage the production of the monomer from petroleum, terephthalic acid (TPA) and ethylene glycol (EG). \u201cBy selecting microbial groups from environments that interact with PET, we isolate the Idonella sakaiensis bacteria which can utilize PET as primary energy and carbon source,\u201d the professor from the Institute for Research Initiatives stated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">After the presentation from the keynote speakers, IFoLSE event was followed by a parallel discussion session. The session was divided into 5 rooms based on the theme of Biodiversity, Botany and Zoology, Microbiology, Conservation and Environment, and Molecular Biology.
