Whereas the agricultural sector is the spearhead in food availability. Considering this condition, the Association for Agricultural Socio-Economic Student Professional Organization (Popmasepi) held a webinar on \u2018Strengthening Agricultural Extension and Human Resources During the Covid-19 Pandemic,\u2019 on Friday (15\/1\/2021).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Inviting three experts, this webinar is expected to establish a strategy and actions to strengthen the agricultural sector. The three speakers are Dr. Ir. Leli Nuryati, M.Sc (Head of Agriculture Center, BPPSDMP Ministry of Agriculture) represented by Ir. I Wayan Ediana M.Si., Widiyanto S.P, M.Si, Ph.D. (the Head of Center for Farmer Protection and Empowerment Studies LPPM UNS), and Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, MS (Chair of Indonesian Agricultural Extension Lecturers Association).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ir. I Wayan Ediana M.Si as the first speaker states that the role of the agriculture sector during the Covid-19 pandemic become crucially strategic because of its highest contribution to the State\u2019s Budget. \u201cThe objectives of agriculture development are the fulfillment of food stock for the 267 million Indonesians, improving farmers\u2019 welfare, and increasing export,\u201d I Wayan explained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He further added that the role of farmer extension agents during this pandemic condition is to support the foodstuff availability, encouraging farmers to continue their production, initiating innovation in e-commerce development for the farmers, and utilization of alsintan. \u201cIn term of the available strategy, it should be implemented by adhering to the health protocol to maintain health, conducting dissemination for farmers and their family, using online dissemination system, collaborate with e-commerce service providers, and motivate the farmers to cultivate a healthy local foodstuff,\u201d I Wayan added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Widiyanto S.P, M.Si, Ph.D., starting the second material with various problems in food supply and agriculture in Indonesia. Dr. Widiyanto who also serves as the Head of the Center for Farmer Protection and Empowerment Studies (Pusdi Perlintan) Institute for Research and Community Engagement (LPPM) UNS, argues that there is a mandate contained in Regulation No. 19 of 2013 regarding Farmers\u2019 Protection and Empowerment. Pusdi Pelintan, which was established in the same year as the regulation, has a mission in conducting supervision in the implementation of the regulation. To achieve this, the study center establishes a partnership with the National Secretariat of Indonesian Farmer-Owned Enterprises (Seknas BUMP Indonesia) led by Dr. Ir. Sugeng Edi Waluyo, M.M.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The exigency for the establishment of Farmer-Owned Enterprises (BUMP) was based in Article 80 paragraph (3), which states the function of BUMP to improve economic scale, competitiveness, an investment source, and development of farmers\u2019 entrepreneurship spirit, that in line with the main objective of the Farmers\u2019 Protection and Empowerment Regulation in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThus, we can consider that the said collaboration is the right effort. The Seknas BUMP Indonesia itself manages more than 40 BUMPs in 16 Provinces in Indonesia. This number is projected to keep increasing,\u201d Widiyanto states.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Pusdi Perlintan LPPM UNS is a study center that covers a multi-disciplinary field. Thus, it can provide a comprehensive view on a certain matter. This academic advantage contributes to the BUMP and farmers&#8217; innovation through the Seknas BUMP Indonesia network.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The last speaker, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarru Samsi Hariadi, MS., shares his experience in agriculture extension. Through his expertise, Prof. Sunarru found the importance of a modern agricultural paradigm with strong characteristics and a long-lasting entrepreneurial spirit. Further, he stressed the crucial role of the young generation as new generation farmers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cRegeneration is crucial as we face a fact where the number of agricultural workforces continues to shrink. Calculation on this decline is approximately 500,000 \u2013 700,000 farmers per year.
