UNS<\/a><\/strong> — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, revealed the fundamental steps taken by UNS in preventing corruption on campus. These strategic options were revealed directly in front of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek), Nadiem Anwar Makarim, and the Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK<\/a>), Nurul Ghufron. Prof. Jamal explained the fundamental steps taken by UNS by launching the \u2018Jaga Kampus\u2019 platform developed by the KPK. This platform was created to increase the transparency of university financial management as a corruption prevention measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW)<\/a> data, corruption suspects in the education sector are dominated by the State Civil Service (ASN). The five-year figures from 2016 to 2021 show that more than 200 ASNs in the education sector were suspected of corruption acts under investigation by law enforcement during that time. The number of corruption cases under ASN suspects in educational institutions is relatively high. This data indicates a need for bureaucratic reform in the education environment to prevent other forms of corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"UNS<\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In response to this situation, Prof. Jamal said that UNS has five fundamental steps to counter corruption. The five steps include providing anti-corruption education, performing bureaucracy reform, establishing an Internal Supervisory Unit (SPI), establishing a Study Center at the Faculty of Law, and establishing the Public Transparency and Anti-Corruption Study Center (Pustapako). \u201cWe have embedded anti-corruption education in some courses. The material will focus on emphasizing anti-corruption values, namely honesty, care, independence, discipline, responsibility, hard work, simplicity, courage, and justice,\u201d explained Prof. Jamal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to providing anti-corruption education, UNS also carried out bureaucratic reforms. The bureaucratic reform aims to create a bureaucratic system that is responsive, accountable, transparent, effective, efficient, clean, qualified, and upholding the values of justice without discrimination and the values of professionalism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNS also established SPI and the Faculty of Law Study Center as consequential corruption prevention measures. The SPI serves as the Rector\u2019s partner to investigate the extent to which campus finances are managed. In addition, UNS also established a study center specifically addressing public transparency and anti-corruption called Pustapako<\/a>. \u201cPustapako strives to be the media in increasing the role of education, training, research, and community service to accomplish a corruption-free government,\u201d said Prof. Jamal in the \u2018Jaga Kampus\u2019 Launch (23\/2\/2022).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The said study center has three main work programs. First, to raise Indonesians\u2019 awareness of the importance of public transparency and efforts to prevent and eradicate corruption. Second, conducting fact-based research, dissemination, and community service to strengthen law enforcement, especially corruption. Finally, conducting studies and becoming a role model of public transparency in preventing and eradicating corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These steps will be the fundamental efforts taken by UNS and are expected to be well implemented. The campus is committed to continuously improving public transparency to prevent corruption in the UNS. Humas UNS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
