UNS<\/a><\/strong> – Indonesian language continues to evolve with the changing times. Teachers are expected to adapt to these changes in order to create students who are proficient in Indonesian language. One form of adaptation to these changes is improving the quality of Indonesian language teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This issue inspired the Community Service Team from the Indonesian Language and Literature Education<\/a> (PBSI) Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta to organize a workshop to improve the quality of Indonesian language teaching. The workshop entitled “Improving the Quality of Indonesian Language Teaching for Elementary School Teachers in Karangpandan District, Karanganyar Regency” was held offline on Thursday (20\/7\/2023) at SD Negeri 1 Karangpandan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chief Executive of Activity, Prof. Dr. Sumarwati. M.Pd., said that the workshop organized by the Linguistics and Applied Literature Research Group of the PBSI Study Program aims to overcome learning loss as an effect of distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The complex nature of Indonesian language material also adds challenges for teachers in dealing with this situation. Therefore, this workshop is expected to increase the readiness of elementary school teachers in Karangpandan District to carry out teaching in the post-pandemic period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, this activity was welcomed enthusiastically by all parties involved. The event was opened by Dra. Tri Sulistiyani, the Education Coordinator of the Karangpandan District. In her remarks, she encouraged participants to make the most of the learning opportunity in this workshop because teachers in her rural area rarely receive education and training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 \u201cI hope the attending teachers can take advantage of this opportunity. The use of the Indonesian language, especially in a practical manner, still needs to be learned. This activity will be useful if followed well. So, teachers, don’t hesitate to communicate and discuss with the UNS team throughout this event,” Dra. Tri Sulistiyani said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop, which was held offline, was attended by 35 elementary school teachers in the Karangpandan District, Karanganyar Regency. As a follow-up to the offline workshop, the teacher developed a curriculum and assessment instrument for Indonesian language teaching, covering grammar, language skills, and literary skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first speaker, Prof. Dr. Sumarwati, M.Pd., opened the workshop by presenting material on “Teaching and Assessment of Grammar Materials in Elementary School”. The next speaker, Dr. Atikah Anindyarini, M.Hum. delivered material on “Learning and Assessment of Language Skills in Elementary Schools”. The last speaker, Dr. Edy Suryanto, M.Pd., shared knowledge on “Teaching and Assessment of Literary Skills in Elementary Schools”. This activity also involved four students who played roles as event facilitators, ice breakers, and the documentation team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After participating in the workshop, the teachers practiced designing curriculum and assessment instruments for Indonesian language teaching based on the topics presented. They were required to develop a curriculum and assessment instrument that includes learning achievements or basic competencies, texts studied, questions or text details, and answer keys or assessment rubrics. These materials were then submitted, reviewed by the team, and subsequently discussed synchronously through an online workshop. As an appreciation, teachers who actively participated in the workshop received a certificate worth 32 JP. Humas UNS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
