UNS<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 The Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Task Force (Satgas, or Task Force of PPKS) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta<\/a> hosted a discussion on building a safe and sexual-violence-free campus. Held in the M. Sartono Hall of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP)<\/a> UNS, the event drew 85 students from various student organizations supporting violence victims across UNS faculties and prospective members of the PPKS UNS<\/a> Task Force for the 2024-2026 period on Monday (14\/10\/2024).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion aimed to raise critical awareness among UNS academic communities about the importance of a zero-tolerance approach to sexual violence. It also sought to educate students and student organizations, as partners to the\u00a0PPKS UNS<\/a> Task Force, about the guidelines and ethical standards for preventing and addressing sexual violence on campus. Additionally, the event fostered collaboration models among students, student organizations, and the\u00a0PPKS UNS<\/a> Task Force to ensure effective, victim-centered prevention and response efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNS Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Ir. Dody Ariawan, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., opened the event, highlighting the importance of dialogue and outreach that includes students, especially student activists, lecturers, educational staff, the PPKS task force, and experts<\/a>. He expressed hope that the discussion would foster a shared commitment to preventing sexual violence. “Synergy among the parties involved in this discussion is expected to support the creation of a safe and comfortable campus environment free from sexual violence, or at least significantly reduce cases at UNS,” Prof. Dody said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first speaker, Prof. Manneke Budiman, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., Chair of the PPKS Task Force at Universitas Indonesia (UI)<\/a> for 2022-2024, presented on \u201cThe Roots of Sexual Violence: An Exploration of Power Relations.\u201d Prof. Manneke provided a scholarly overview of the historical context and contributing factors of sexual violence, drawing on findings from academic studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second speaker, Chair of PPKS UNS Task Force<\/a>, Prof. Dr. Ismi Dwi Astuti Nurhaeni, M.Si., delivered a presentation titled \u201cBeing Gen Z: Staying Alert to Sexual Violence.\u201d She discussed several cases within UNS that primarily involved students, emphasizing the need for vigilance through understanding common patterns of sexual violence. Prof. Ismi encouraged student activists to serve as active partners with the PPKS UNS Task Force in educating their peers within their respective faculties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Ismi also reassured victims to report incidents to the PPKS UNS Task Force<\/a> without fear. Campus members who experience or witness sexual violence can report incidents directly at the PPKS UNS Task Force office or via the form available at https:\/\/uns.id\/LaporSatgasPPKS<\/a>, or through WhatsApp at 081327062341.
