ROTE NDAO – Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) KKN Team for Rote Ndao, Nusa Tenggara Timur gave 30 solar panels to the representative of the residents of Oeseli Village, Southwest Rote, Rote Ndao on Tuesday (15/8/2017).

The idea came up due to the absence of electricity from PLN to Oeseli Village, which is located on the coast thus receives a very high intensity of sunlight. This motivated KKN UNS team to harness the potential energy in Rote Ndao.

Solar Panel was the main program of the KKN team, that served for 45 days in the village, located at the southern tip of Indonesia, as a form of utilization of renewable energy resources. The team installed 30 lighting points spread in Oeseli Village. The lighting points were installed around the area of public facilities such as roads connecting houses, places of worship, fields, ports, and others.

The panel was installed with a capacity of 2.4 kilowatts by all KKN team together with local residents. The process took quite a long time,  which includes searching for buffer poles, dispersing cables to the point of illumination, mounting lights, and installing solar panel glasses.

Some residents of Oeseli Village had actually used solar panels, but because of its small size, the usage was still limited. Therefore, in addition to the construction of new lighting points, KKN UNS team also educated the local community to maximize the use of solar panels and about tge future maintenance. humas-red.uns/Dty/Oss/Eln
