The UNS Independent Admission Selection is designed to provide broader, more inclusive, and equitable opportunities for prospective students from various backgrounds and with diverse potentials.

During the launching event of the UNS Independent Admission Selection on Monday (11/5/2026), the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., stated that according to the Regulation of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Number 3 of 2026 concerning Student Admissions for Diploma and Undergraduate Programs at State Universities, public universities may admit students through three pathways: the National Selection Based on Achievement (SNBP), the National Selection Based on Test (SNBT), and the Independent Admission Selection.

“Alhamdulillah, the SNBP results were announced on March 31, 2026. A total of 2,432 applicants to UNS were declared successful. The accepted students came from various regions across Indonesia, covering 185 regencies/cities from 31 provinces. The total number of SNBP applicants reached 40,042, an increase of 3% compared to 2025,” said Prof. Hartono, who was accompanied by the Vice Rector for Academic and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si.; Head of the UNS Student Admission Office (SPMB), Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D.; and Head of the Vocational and Undergraduate Program Division, Ir. Widiyanto, S.P., M.Si., Ph.D.

Meanwhile, for the SNBT pathway, the Computer-Based Written Test (UTBK) held from April 21–29, 2026, was successfully conducted. A total of 26,981 participants took the test at the UNS UTBK Center.

“We would also like to inform you that the number of applicants applying to study programs at UNS through the SNBT pathway reached 91,613. The SNBT results will be announced on May 25, 2026. Besides SNBP and SNBT, UNS still provides opportunities for prospective students through the Independent Admission pathway,” he added.

The 2026 UNS Independent Admission Selection consists of three admission categories. First, the Regular Pathway, which includes the UNS Written Examination and the use of UTBK SNPMB scores. Second, the Affirmation Pathway, intended for specific groups, including students with disabilities, outstanding students, social welfare applicants, and recipients of the Indonesia Smart College Card (KIP-K). Third, the Partnership Pathway, which includes collaborations with strategic partners and the UNS Alumni Association (IKA UNS).

Through these various pathways, UNS is committed to providing an adaptive and inclusive student admission system capable of attracting talented students from all parts of Indonesia.

Registration for the 2026 UNS Independent Admission Selection is open from May 11 to June 2, 2026. The written examination will be held on June 8–11, 2026.
UNS — The Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Smart Hub Building was officially inaugurated by the Mayor of Surakarta, Respati Achmad Ardianto, on Friday (May 8, 2026). Located west of the UNS Rectorate Building, the UNS Smart Hub is expected to become a center for innovation development, collaboration, and digital transformation within the university environment.

In his remarks, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., expressed his appreciation and gratitude to all invited guests, particularly the Surakarta City Government and the management of Bank Jateng for their support and strong cooperation.

The development and management of the UNS Smart Hub Building, which also houses the UNS Sub-Branch Office (KCP) of Bank Jateng, were described as a tangible form of collaboration between UNS and Bank Jateng. This partnership not only provides banking services for the academic community but also supports the creation of collaborative and interactive spaces on campus.

“The presence of the UNS Smart Hub Building is expected to bring significant benefits, not only to the UNS community but also to the surrounding society,” said Prof. Hartono.

In addition to banking services, the building is equipped with indoor and outdoor spaces that can be used for discussions, interactions, and collaboration among students, lecturers, and staff. These facilities are considered important in fostering a productive, open, and innovative academic culture in a modern university setting.

UNS also encouraged its academic community to make optimal use of the facilities at the UNS Smart Hub, both for academic and non-academic activities. It is hoped that the available spaces will inspire ideas, innovations, and collaborations that benefit the wider community.

Going forward, UNS hopes that its partnership with Bank Jateng will continue to expand into various strategic areas, including financial literacy, service digitalization, student entrepreneurship development, and support for other university programs.

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta officially launched the UNS Endowment Fund as a strategic initiative to strengthen the sustainability of quality education. The launch took place at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium on Friday evening (May 8, 2026), alongside the presentation of awards to 18 outstanding alumni.

The event was attended by the Rector of UNS and the Vice Rectors, the Chair of the Board of Trustees (MWA), the Academic Senate, the Board of Professors, faculty leaders, the Mayor of Surakarta, and the Chairperson of the UNS Alumni Association (IKA UNS).

In his remarks, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Hartono, dr., M.Si., stated that during the momentum of the university’s 50th Anniversary in 2026, UNS officially launched the Endowment Fund as a strategic step to ensure the sustainability of quality education in the future.

Over the past five decades, UNS has demonstrated significant contributions to the development of Indonesia’s human resources through quality graduates, innovative research, and impactful community service. These achievements have gained recognition at both national and international levels.

One indicator of the high level of public trust in UNS is its position as the second most applied-to public university in Indonesia during the last two years in the National Test-Based Selection (SNBT). This trust, according to the university, is a mandate that must continue to be maintained and strengthened.

In global university rankings, UNS has shown significant progress and has consistently ranked among the top 10 universities nationally in recent years. In several international ranking institutions, UNS has even achieved a top-five national position. In the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2026, for example, UNS ranked second nationally, just below Universitas Indonesia.

Nevertheless, UNS emphasized the importance of preparing for institutional sustainability through a clear and sustainable development roadmap. One of the strategic measures taken is the establishment of the UNS Endowment Fund.

The fund is expected to become an important instrument in strengthening UNS’s independence in implementing various flagship programs while maintaining the sustainability of quality education. Returns generated from the fund’s investments will be allocated toward scholarships for underprivileged students, as well as the development of educational and research infrastructure and facilities. The fund will also support student activities to enhance achievements and institutional reputation, while promoting impactful research and innovation for society.

As of now, the UNS Endowment Fund has accumulated Rp 20,217,502,856, sourced from the remaining RKAT allocations from 2024 and 2025. The fund has already begun to be managed and invested by considering aspects such as returns, security, liquidity, and prudential principles.

The benefits of the UNS Endowment Fund have already been directly felt through the provision of educational assistance scholarships to 23 students.

“The launch of the UNS Endowment Fund tonight marks an important milestone in our collective efforts to ensure the sustainability of quality education at UNS,” he added.

Chair of the UNS Board of Trustees (MWA), Prof. Muliaman Darmansyah Hadad, Ph.D., stated that the launch of the Endowment Fund is a strategic step in strengthening the sustainability of higher education institutions in the future. The launch also became an important part of reflecting on UNS’s five-decade journey as a center of education, research, and community service.

“For five decades, UNS has been an academic home for many generations. From this campus emerged graduates, scientists, professionals, bureaucrats, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and individuals devoted to serving the nation in various fields,” explained Prof. Muliaman.

He further stated that UNS’s achievements are the result of the long-standing efforts of all university stakeholders, including the founders, university leaders, lecturers, educational staff, students, alumni, and strategic partners who have collectively built the university’s reputation and contributions to the nation.

The 50th anniversary serves as a reminder that universities must be prepared to face global challenges. In this context, the launch of the UNS Endowment Fund is viewed as an important foundation for institutional sustainability.

The fund is designed as a sustainability instrument in which the principal amount remains intact, while the investment returns are directed toward supporting education, research, community service, strengthening academic capacity, and assisting students in need.

Furthermore, the Chair of the Board of Trustees emphasized that the success of the UNS Endowment Fund depends heavily on governance that is transparent, accountable, prudent, and oriented toward public benefit. The fund, he noted, must be managed not only with financial accuracy but also with clarity of values. Its purpose is not merely to generate returns, but to ensure that its benefits are directed back to the university’s noble mission and create real impact for society.

“The launch of the Endowment Fund tonight is not merely a ceremonial event. It marks the beginning of a collective movement to safeguard the future of UNS through trust, collaboration, good governance, and a spirit of giving meaningful contributions,” he concluded.

Chairperson of IKA UNS, Prof. Dr. Zudan Arif Fakrulloh, S.H., M.H., also expressed support for the launch of the UNS Endowment Fund as a strategic step to strengthen the sustainability of education and university development.

Similarly, the Mayor of Surakarta, Respati Achmad Ardianto, voiced his support for the initiative, stating that the UNS Endowment Fund could become an important foundation for improving the quality of education, research, innovation, and expanding educational access for future generations.

UNS — The Faculty of Engineering (FT) at Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held a Soft Launching event for the opening of international undergraduate classes for the Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering Study Programs. The event took place at the Main Seminar Room (RSU) of the Ir. R.P.M. Kasifudin Building, FT UNS, on Friday (8/5/2026). The establishment of these international classes marks a strategic step by FT UNS in supporting UNS’s vision of becoming an internationally recognized university toward a World Class University.

The Dean of FT UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, S.T., M.Si., IPU., stated that the program represents a concrete effort by FT UNS to respond to the needs of global industries and society for engineering graduates with international competencies and global competitiveness.

“Today, FT UNS has two very special reasons to be grateful, namely the issuance of the Rector’s Decrees regarding the opening of International Undergraduate Classes for the Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering Study Programs,” explained Prof. Wahyudi, who was accompanied by the Vice Dean for Academic and Research Affairs of FT UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Eko Surojo, S.T., M.T.; the Head of the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program, Dr. Ir. Achmad Basuki, S.T., M.T.; and the Head of the Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Program, Dr. Ir. Joko Waluyo, S.T., M.T.

The international classes were officially established through Rector’s Decree Number 1010/UN27/HK.02/2026 for the Undergraduate Civil Engineering Program and Rector’s Decree Number 1013/UN27/HK.02/2026 for the Undergraduate Chemical Engineering Program. The opening of these international undergraduate classes is the result of extensive collaboration and hard work among the Study Program Management Unit (UPPS), study programs, faculty support units, and various related parties at the university level. The process began with preparation stages, proposal drafting, evaluation by the UNS Institute for Development and Quality Assurance, and ultimately official approval through the Rector’s Decree.

The opening of these international classes is not merely the addition of new academic programs but a concrete effort by FT UNS to address the demands of global industries and society for engineering graduates with international competencies, adaptability, and global competitiveness.

“We hope this program will produce global engineers from FT UNS — graduates who are not only academically excellent but also capable of becoming innovators, problem solvers, and future leaders who create meaningful impacts for global society. Students are expected to gain broader learning experiences through curriculum enhancement, global collaboration, academic exchange, industrial networking, and partnership opportunities with international institutions,” he stated.

Regarding the student selection mechanism, the entire process will follow the governance system of the UNS New Student Admission Selection (SPMB). Requirements for applicants can be accessed through the official UNS SPMB website, and student selection will be conducted through the 2026 Independent Admission Pathway. The first lectures are planned to begin in the Odd Semester of the 2026/2027 Academic Year in August 2026.

Prof. Wahyudi also expressed appreciation to all teams who worked hard throughout the proposal preparation, academic evaluation, and issuance of the rector’s decrees. According to him, international classes are not merely an expansion of academic programs but a platform for producing global engineers from FT UNS.

UNS — The Library Unit of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by organizing the International Short Course on SDGs: Effective Scientific Writing and Publication Strategies toward SDG 4 and SDG 17. The event took place over three days, from April 27 to 29, 2026, in a hybrid format at the UNS Library.

This international program was attended by approximately 182 participants from diverse backgrounds, including UNS students as well as students from other universities across Indonesia. International participants also joined from countries such as Pakistan, Cambodia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Additionally, UNS international students from Malaysia, Ghana, Pakistan, Cambodia, Tanzania, and the Philippines took part in the short course.

In her opening remarks, the Vice Rector for Academic and Research Affairs of UNS, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, emphasized that the event serves as an important momentum to strengthen perspectives on scientific publication as part of inclusive global development. The principle of “no one is left behind” was highlighted as a key foundation, underscoring that no individual, institution, or country can tackle global challenges alone. Therefore, collaboration through data sharing and transparent communication is essential, in line with SDG 17 on global partnerships.

Furthermore, the event also highlighted the importance of improving education quality as outlined in SDG 4. Quality education is not limited to classroom learning but also includes the continuous creation, development, and dissemination of knowledge.

Scientific writing is viewed as a strategic element connecting these two goals. Through scientific writing, local research findings can be elevated into global solutions with wide-reaching impact. Therefore, participants were encouraged to actively engage with speakers and fellow participants and to optimize their research potential to contribute to public policy, education systems, and humanity.

Prof. Fitria expressed appreciation to all parties involved in the successful organization of the event, especially the experts and speakers who shared their knowledge and experiences.

“With a spirit of collaboration and strengthened academic capacity, I hope this activity will produce high-quality scientific works that contribute to achieving the SDGs, particularly in education and global partnerships,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the Head of the UNS Library Committee, Prof. Dr. Argyo Demartoto, accompanied by the Head of the UNS Library Unit, Riah Wiratningsih, explained that UNS received funding support from the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP) through the equity program, aimed at achieving Key Performance Indicators (IKU) of higher education institutions.

As a response to this program, UNS organized academic writing training designed for academics to enhance their capacity in producing high-quality scientific publications accessible to a wider audience.

The training lasted three days and adopted an international concept, involving participants from various backgrounds, including students and academics from both domestic and international institutions. Participants showed high enthusiasm, reflected in strong participation and positive responses to the materials and discussions.

To ensure the quality of the training, UNS invited speakers from several renowned institutions, including Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Universitas Diponegoro (Undip), and UIN Sunan Kalijaga. The speakers were both practitioners and academics with extensive experience in scientific writing and international publication.

Through this event, UNS reaffirmed the importance of disseminating research and community service outcomes. Scientific works should not remain merely as institutional repository archives but must be widely published to provide tangible contributions to society and sustainable development.

“This initiative is a strategic step in strengthening the academic culture on campus. In addition to improving the quality of scientific publications, it also opens broader opportunities for international collaboration among the UNS academic community,” said Prof. Argyo.

On this occasion, one of the speakers, Dr. Haslinda Husaini from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia, delivered a presentation on the structure of scientific articles (IMRaD) and the role of scientific writing in improving education quality. Her session was followed by discussions and a manuscript review workshop led by Safiratu, Ph.D., from Universitas Gadjah Mada.

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) has achieved a notable milestone on the international stage. Based on the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2026 released on April 23, 2026, UNS is ranked in the 351–400 bracket among the best universities in Asia. At the national level, UNS has secured its position as the second-best university in Indonesia, alongside Institut Teknologi Bandung and Universitas Gadjah Mada, and just below Universitas Indonesia.

This achievement marks a significant improvement from the previous year, when UNS was placed in the 401–500 bracket in Asia and ranked third nationally. The progress reflects the collective effort, consistency, and strong commitment of the entire UNS academic community in enhancing globally competitive higher education quality.

In this ranking, UNS demonstrated solid performance with an overall score ranging from 36.4 to 38.2. The achievement is supported by key indicators, including Teaching (29.9), Research Environment (28.8), Research Quality (47.3), Industry (51.0), and International Outlook (41.1).

Notably, in the Research Quality indicator, UNS achieved the highest score in Indonesia at 47.3. This highlights the strength and global impact of UNS Research, measured through citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and research influence. It reinforces UNS’s position as an institution that is not only productive in research but also highly relevant and impactful in advancing knowledge.

Rector Hartono emphasized that this achievement is the result of synergy and dedication across the university. The contributions of lecturers in producing high-quality research, along with the strategic role of educational staff in supporting systems and services, have been crucial foundations for this success.

“This achievement is not merely about numbers, but a concrete step toward becoming a World Class University. It reflects our collective spirit to grow, create impact, and elevate UNS on the global stage,” he stated.

UNS also expressed its appreciation to all members of its community, alumni, and partners who have contributed to this journey. The achievement is expected to serve as new momentum to continue advancing, strengthening reputation, and delivering innovations that benefit society.

With a strong spirit of collaboration, UNS remains committed to moving forward, inspiring others, and contributing meaningfully to the nation and the world.

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta has established collaboration and strategic cooperation with the Government of South Papua Province. The cooperation was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, and the Governor of South Papua Province, Dr. Apollo Sadanpo, at Meeting Room 1 of the dr. Prakosa Building, UNS, on Friday (17/4/2026).

On behalf of the UNS leadership, Prof. Hartono welcomed Governor Apollo Sadanpo and his delegation to UNS. “However, allow me to say that this is not simply ‘welcome,’ but rather ‘welcome back home’ to the UNS campus, because Dr. Apollo Sadanpo is an Alumnus of Civil Engineering at UNS, class of 1999,” said Prof. Hartono.

The signing of this MoU is a strategic step in strengthening synergy between higher education institutions and local governments, especially in the implementation of the Tridharma of Higher Education: education, research, and community service.

This agreement is expected to become a strong foundation for implementing various collaborative programs, including the development of education that is relevant to regional needs, impactful research, and community service that is solution-oriented and sustainable.

In addition, this cooperation also opens opportunities to strengthen the Impactful Campus Program and develop excellent and competitive human resources. In line with this, UNS is currently implementing its strategic plan under the DREAMTEAM framework. Through this strategy, UNS is committed to building a university that is not only academically excellent, but also able to make real contributions to national development.

In its implementation, UNS promotes the value of ACTIVE, which reflects a collaborative, innovative, and responsive spirit toward the needs of the times. This value serves as the foundation for UNS in building strong partnerships, both with the central government and regional governments, including with South Papua Province.

“We believe that collaborations like this are our shared effort to provide concrete solutions for society. South Papua, as a developing province, has great potential, and we believe that through this synergy, we can contribute to accelerating development, especially in education and strengthening human resource capacity,” added Prof. Hartono. He hopes that this MoU will not stop at the signing stage only, but will be followed by real, measurable, and sustainable programs.

UNS is ready to become a strategic partner for the South Papua Provincial Government in providing innovation, applied research, and community service that directly benefits society.

“We would like to express our gratitude for the trust given by the South Papua Provincial Government to UNS. We hope this cooperation will bring the greatest benefits to both UNS and South Papua Province,” said Prof. Hartono.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the South Papua Provincial Government, Governor Dr. Apollo Sadanpo expressed his appreciation to UNS for the opportunity to establish this cooperation. As is well known, many young people from South Papua are alumni of UNS.

“Therefore, we hope that in the future, more of our children will be given the opportunity to pursue their education at UNS,” said Dr. Apollo Sadanpo.

In addition to education, South Papua also opens opportunities for cooperation in various other sectors. The province has great potential in agriculture, fisheries, and plantations that can be developed together. “We hope this cooperation can become a strategic step in optimizing the potential of South Papua and supporting development in the easternmost region of Indonesia,” said Dr. Apollo.

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta strengthened its presence on the global stage by holding the international webinar Meet the Mind: Nobel Laureate Series, featuring world-renowned economist and 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics laureate, Prof. Daron Acemoglu. This event became a special part of the celebration of UNS’s 50th Anniversary.

The webinar, held online, was attended by more than 1,500 participants from 31 countries across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and America. The strong enthusiasm from participants around the world reflected the relevance of the issues discussed and further strengthened UNS’s position as a platform for exchanging ideas and international academic collaboration.

In his opening remarks, UNS Rector, Prof. Dr. Hartono, expressed his pride and honor in welcoming Prof. Daron Acemoglu to the UNS academic community and global participants.
Prof. Acemoglu explained that technology can be a powerful force to expand opportunities, improve productivity, and encourage shared progress. However, without proper governance, technology also has the potential to deepen social inequality and concentrate power in the hands of only a few.

He also highlighted the importance of inclusive institutions—institutions that encourage participation, support innovation, and distribute benefits broadly. On the other hand, exclusive or extractive institutions tend to create inequality and hinder long-term progress.

During the session, Prof. Acemoglu also discussed changes in the world of work caused by automation, the need for business models that prioritize public interest, and the importance of collaboration between humans and technology. According to him, the best future is not when machines replace humans, but when technology strengthens human abilities to create and innovate.

The warm and inspiring discussion provided valuable insights for students, lecturers, researchers, policymakers, and the general public regarding the challenges and opportunities in the era of digital transformation. Through this international forum, UNS demonstrated its role as a university that is open to major global ideas, actively builds global networks, and consistently provides learning spaces that are relevant to the development of the times.

The celebration of UNS’s half-century journey became even more meaningful—not only by reflecting on its long institutional journey, but also by looking toward the future with optimism, collaboration, and the spirit of continuing to contribute to Indonesia and the world.

Furthermore, she added that the commitment to inviting international speakers is part of the PKP Study Program’s spirit to continue growing at the international level and expanding academic networks across countries.

During the session, the speaker presented various experiences and agricultural extension practices that support the development of sustainable food systems in Thailand. Students were also given the opportunity to interact through discussion and question-and-answer sessions, providing space for them to deepen their understanding and compare agricultural extension practices in Indonesia and Thailand.

“This activity not only provides additional academic knowledge, but also encourages students to develop a global perspective and readiness to face future challenges in agricultural development,” said Dr. Diwicita to uns.ac.id on Monday (13/4/2026).

The implementation of this International Guest Lecture is also in line with the commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 (Quality Education) through providing access to quality learning by involving international speakers, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) through strengthening academic collaboration between UNS and Kasetsart University, Thailand.

Through this activity, students are expected to be more motivated to broaden their global perspective, improve academic competence, and contribute to the development of a sustainable agricultural sector in the future.
