UNS — Pancasila Implementation Study Center (PSPP) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held another webinar on “The Reflection of 2021: Pancasila and Our Indonesian-ness in the Digital Era” on Monday (20/12/21). The event that was attended by more than 100 participants was held through the Zoom Cloud Meeting and invited the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, S.H., M.Hum., as the keynote speaker.

Three speakers were invited to the event, Commission II DPR RI Member, Drs. Mohammad Toha, M.Si., Coordinator for Media Production Content PTP the Expert in Pusdatin Kemendikbudristek RI, Dr. Eka Khristiyanta Purnama, M.Pd., and Professor in Civic Education Program UNS, Prof. Dr. Triyanto, S.H., M.Hum.

In this national webinar, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated that globalization and industrial revolution 4.0 would lead to society 5.0 that connects all life aspects. Therefore, the young generation will face a challenge in living as a nation and becoming the generation that embraces the changes. “They are creative, innovative, quick to study, like challenges, and open-minded generation,” Prof. Jamal Wiwoho stated.

However, the Rector also mentioned that openness also creates a social vulnerability that has the potential to tarnish national values. Thus, emphasizing the importance of Pancasila as an ideology in the digital era to restore the national identity.

Led by Dr. Bramastia, M.Pd., as the moderator, the webinar moved to the first speaker, Drs. Mohammad Toha, M.Si., discussed internalizing Pancasila as a process to re-appreciate the state philosophy and adopt it in daily life. Therefore, Pancasila could be inculcated through the means preferred by the new generation. Drs. Mohammad Toha also emphasized that the Pancasila education program needs to be re-arranged to match the generational characteristics through media that trigger students’ curiosity, interaction, inspiring and encouraging students to be creative and innovative.

“(We) also need to consider how civic education could initiate inter-religion communities, inter-cultural, and traditional community in Student Community Service Program (KKN),” he added.

Dr. Eka Khristiyanta Purnama, M.Pd., as the second speaker, discussed the process of shaping excellent human resources as lifelong learners with global competencies and behaved based on Pancasila values. He also discussed the use of technology in the Pancasila learning process. The last discussion from Prof. Dr. Triyanto, S.H., M.Hum., focused on the reality that Pancasila has not been applied as the basis in technology development and implementation, which leads to the growth of new norms and digital conflicts. Prof. Triyanto underlies the need for developing internet ethics based on Pancasila and a clear and systematic roadmap and grand design for the application of Pancasila in the digital era, supported with a digital campaign on the matter.

UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta stated its readiness in assisting Sragen District Government in re-arranging Gunung Kemukus area. This statement was delivered by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, in the Interactive Dialogue on “The Management and Post-Construction Development in Gunung Kemukus Area” in Sunan Hotel, Monday (20/12/2021).

This event was also attended by Sragen Regent, dr. Kusdinar Untung Yuni Sukowati and the Head of Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (PPW) Central Java Directorate of Settlement Ministry of Public Works and Human Settlement (Ministry of PUPR) Cakra Nagara S.T., M.T., M.E.

Prof. Jamal explained that the existing image of Gunung Kemukus as a dark tourism destination needs to be changed, and UNS will take the role to change the image. The Rector is distraught that the religious tourism site turned into dark tourism filled with fornication business.

“This kind of belief needs to be fixed; we are ready to collaborate with Sragen. in the future. Hopefully, the area will become a tourism destination for children, cultural tourism destination so that children could grow well and their mother does not have a negative perception,” Prof. Jamal added.

UNS Support

UNS will provide several supports for the Sragen District Government in supporting the Gunung Kemukus revitalization process into “The New Kemukus” by the Ministry of PUPR. First, UNS will send its Study Centers to the Institute for Research and Community Services (LPPM) UNS, Research Groups in programs, and Center for Excellence (PUI) Javanologi UNS. The study centers that will be involved in this program are Research and Development Center for Tourism and Cultural, Population and Gender Research Study Center, Entrepreneurship Development Center, and Rural Areas Research and Development Center. The Research Group that will participate in the program is from the green economy, applied technology, tourism, and health. It is possible that more centers and groups will participate during the implementation

“This (program) could be used as a means and facilities so that the existing studies could change cultural perception and directed it into a more positive image,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Secondly, UNS will utilized Gunung Kemukus area in Sumberlawang Subdistrict, Sragen as a site for Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program implementation because the area has been revitalized by the Ministry of PUPR. According to the release from the Sragen District Government, the revitalization process of the area has reached 95% on November 2021. This process includes managing the entryway, building pedestrian, public space, Pangeran Samudra tomb, and other public facilities.

“Through this program, our students could be involved in Gunung Kemukus development program as a cultural destination through several activities. It will also involve faculty members, industries, and students to meet the 20-semester credits or equal to 4-6 months in the field,” he explained.

The last role of UNS is sending students through the Thematic Student Community Service Program (KKN) in Gunung Kemukus. Prof. Jamal explained that this program would be implemented periodically following the existing and clear roadmap. Through the Thematic KKN UNS program in Gunung Kemukus, UNS will involve around 3,000-5,000 students ear year and 350 field supervisors who will provide understanding on area utilization for the locals so that they feel the assistance.

UNS Recommendation

In the interactive dialogue, Prof. Jamal also shared recommendations for Sragen District Government in creating The New Kemukus as a family and religious tourism destination. Prof. Jamal recommended that the roadmap for The New Kemukus be prepared in an integrative manner and holistically because he thinks the area has numerous homework in the social, economic, and cultural issues.

“This (process) needs to involve a comprehensive handling by involving extensive stakeholders from the central/local governments, private sectors, university, and community,” Prof. Jamal explained.

UNS also suggested that Sragen District Government improve community awareness on the development plan of The New Kemukus as a source of local government income (PAD) by improving the quality of infrastructures and supporting facilities and integrating the local community’s interests with all related stakeholders.

“Third, to change the negative image, (we) need to build a new narrative on Pangeran Samudra, develop souvenirs destination, and improve the quality of homestay and the culinary sector,” Prof. Jamal added.

UNS also asked Sragen District Government to direct the area into a healthy, gender-responsive, and children-friendly tourism destination. Lastly, Prof. Jamal suggested the re-arrangement of spatial layout and settlement to create a more modern, interesting, and attractive destination.

“We will also assist with independent projects to create credits for the great cultural resources. For example, the European countries are advanced but respect the culture, and it is exciting,” he concluded. Humas UNS

UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho granted a Master’s study scholarship for all gold medalists in the National Science Week (Pimnas). This decision was announced by Prof. Jamal Wiwoho in the awarding ceremony for excellent students in the Faculty of Medical Science (FK) UNS auditorium.

Prof. Jamal and Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus, finalized the decision on a Master’s study scholarship for all the gold medalists in UNS in front of all students attending the ceremony offline and online. Previously, UNS only provided IDR 6 million assistance funds for gold medalists, IDR 4.5 million for silver medalists, and IDR 2.5 million for bronze medalists, followed by the exemption of thesis defense for all medalists. But in Tuesday (14/12/2021) ceremony UNS added a scholarship as a bonus.

“If gold medalists in Pimnas receive a scholarship, do you agree?” Prof. Jamal offered.

Once answered with silence, the participants accepted the offer in unison after the Rector repeated the question. Prof. Jamal tapped his desk to mark the agreement between the university and the medalists.

“This is a strategy to achieve the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) 1 because there are three indicators. First, finding a job six months after graduating, second continuing study. If you won gold, automatically, your Master’s Degree would be free, so we get an IKU point that graduates continue to study after graduation. Third, become an entrepreneur with minimum income of City Minimum Wage (UMK),” Prof. Jamal stated.

Inna Zuhriah Zain, a gold medalist from Pharmacy Program, stated that she is delighted with the decision.

“We are delighted. This appreciation answers our wish, especially to continue our study,” Inna stated. Humas UNS

“We observed that Indonesia urgently needs talents in the digital field, especially in cyber security. This strategic collaboration is a good start for UNS and Solo Municipal government that will be super responsive to digital talents’ needs. We want to shape people who could control and solve cyber-attack and experts in designing security design,” Dr. Sutanto stated.

Supporting Dr. Sutanto, Prof. Jamal stated that the industrial revolution 4.0 technology brings positive and negative impacts.

“The negative is people who hack, for example, when there are 279 million BPJS data leaked. Thus, cyber security is a tool to protect information from abuse by external parties,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Gibran explained that cyber security is vital because one of the Surakarta Government’s social media accounts was hacked not long ago. This is concerning because the government holds sensitive data of its people.

“The government data involves many people; thus, it needs to be kept very well and prevent misuse. For example, check-in data in Peduli Lindungi, we make sure that people’s data are not shared publicly. I often receive a complaint from people regarding online lending; they do not have the application but receive payment reminders. There must be leaked data (on that),” the mayor explained.

Prof. Nizam stated that millions of cyber-attacks entered the system of government, banking, and education institutions daily. A large number of internet users in the country also means that cybercrimes will increase in the future.

“Almost everyone uses internet, transaction, personal data, and communication, that only individual, there are banking, education, government, industry, and other systems. The increase in criminals’ activities demands for cyber security experts,” Prof. Nizam stated. He also hoped that Cyber Security Hub could bring cyber security talents, including research and development. Humas UNS

UNS — Commission I of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Board of Professor initiated webinar on ‘Mass Media Opinion Column Writing.’ The webinar aims to encourage UNS professors to share their ideas, particularly through writing.

Inviting two speakers, the webinar was held online through the Zoom Cloud Meeting application and live-streamed on the UNS YouTube channel on Monday (13/12/2021). Two invited speakers are Prof. Dr. Agus Kristiyanto as UNS Columnist and Vice-Dean at the School of Postgraduate Studies and Iwan Kurniawan from Tempo Institute.

The webinar on opinion column writing was officially opened by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho. In his opening remark, the Rector appreciated the webinar because opinion column writing in mass media has great benefits for participants who like to write to the media. Prof. Jamal also thinks that UNS faculty members have a large opportunity to share their ideas through writing, considering the diverse disciplines in UNS that could translate into various topics of discussion. Through their writing, UNS faculty members could share their ideas and contribute to solving the nations’ problems.

“I truly hope that the members of the Board of Professors and all participants could find solutions for local, national, and even international level,” Prof. Jamal added.

Widely accessible and available for the public, writing in mass media could improve people’s awareness of the issues in Indonesia. “Writing also elevates us, elevate our delf identity,” Prof. Jamal added.

Attending the same occasion, the Chairman of the UNS Board of Professor, Prof. Suranto Tjiptowibisono, agreed to Prof. Jamal. Although, writing in media is not an easy task that requires experience and patience. Prof. Suranto emphasized that journal writing tends to be formal and difficult to understand for common people, while the information contained in such writing is accessible for everyone.

“Our highly formal writing in the form of the journal needs to be modified and shared to people who are not in that particular field of study but also understand the topic,” Prof. Suranto stated.

Therefore, Prof. Suranto hoped that through this webinar, UNS Board of Professors and UNS faculty members could share their ideas in mass media and facilitate accessibility towards such discussion for people. The Chairman of the UNS Board of Professor also added that currently, 12 articles from the UNS Board of Professor are under publishing process by Cambridge Publishing Company. Humas UNS

UNS — The Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta Prof. Jamal Wiwoho opened the National Conference (Munas) V of Alumni Association (IKA) UNS, in Senate Meeting Room dr. Prakosa Rectorate Building, Sunday (5/12/2021).

The offline and online event was attended by the Chairman of Central Management of IKA UNS Ir. Budi Harto, Secretary-General (Sekjen) of Central Management of IKA UNS Drs. Bambang Dwi Wahyudi, Vice-rectors, and Dean from each faculty in UNS.

In his opening remark, Prof. Jamal thanked the Central Management of IKA UNS for conducting a series of Munas V 2021 well. The Munas held on 4-5 December is an agenda that was rescheduled a few times before. The Munas V was firstly scheduled for December 2020 and June 2021, which need to be delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Special appreciation was also delivered from Prof. Jamal to Ir. Budi Harto as the Chairman of IKA UNS Central Management for six years.

“It is appropriate, I think, that as a Rector of UNS, I appreciated and provided the highest recognition to the Central and Regional Management of IKA UNS who have worked together and eased UNS efforts to achieve its grand vision to be a world-class university,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Although this year Munas was held amid the pandemic, Prof. Jamal believes that the spirits of the alumni to contribute to the campus and the community will never go down. Prof. Jamal shared this believes because for almost two years, the Covid-19 pandemic was occurring in Indonesia; IKA UNS has donated numerous aids, from masks, health equipment, staple foods, internet quota, scholarships, and dosages of Covid-19 vaccines for UNS academic members and surrounding community.

“Covid-19 pandemic is proof for a success we achieved together. And thank you to Pak Budi Harto for giving attention to his juniors in the campus by granting funds to provide internet quota assistance during March-April 2020,” Prof. Jamal added.

UNS Achievement

In Munas V IKA UNS 2021, Prof. Jamal shared UNS achievements in the last two years with UNS alumni attending the ceremony. The achievements shared by Prof. Jamal include UNS ranking at the national and international level and the autonomy as a public university. At the international level UNS, for the first time, ranked 1.201+ from 1,662 listed global universities and 6th in Indonesia by the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR). This ranking was announced on 1 September 2021 after THE conducted assessment on Indonesian universities.

Prof. Jamal also shared that UNS was included in cluster 1 of best universities in Indonesia by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) RI.

“More specially, UNS received the highest score in IKU 2020/2021 from Kemdikbudristek and received IDR 23.513 billion incentive,” Prof. Jamal explained.

This award was granted after the Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology Kemdikbudristek RI assessed UNS performance under its status as PTN-BLU. UNS was placed in the high rank (10%) with 80 achievement points and 774 growth points. UNS also received a new status as Public University with Legal Entity (PTNBH) through PP No. 56/ 2020 signed by the President of Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo on 6 October 2020.

“And as PTNBH, the government gave a target to be the best 500 universities in Indonesia. So, be proud to be a part of UNS alumni because currently, UNS is a prestigious university,” he concluded.

Hope for the New IKA UNS Chairman

In the Munas V IKA UNS, Prof. Jamal hoped that the new chairman for IKA UNS is a strong and dedicated figure because he/she will lead more than 200 thousand UNS alumni in various regions in Indonesia and in several countries worldwide. The Rector also sent a message for the new chairman to take a lesson from the previous chairman, Ir. Budi Harto, whom Prof. Jamal considers to have a high commitment to push UNS to develop as a reputable university.

As a start, UNS will open only two programs in the new campus, the Doctoral Program in Law Science and Doctoral Program in Economy. The two programs were selected due to their high number of prospective students and their complete preparation. Prof. Sajidan added that although the development site is yet to be secured, UNS set a target to realize the plan in 2022.
