UNS — Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemristekdikti) inaugurated the Cyber Security Hub in Solo Technopark, Thursday (16/12/2021). The inauguration ceremony was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho; Dirjen Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Dikti Ristek), Prof. Nizam; and Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

The inauguration ceremony was broadcasted live through the Zoom Cloud Meeting attended by Rectors of universities in Indonesia. Cyber Security Hub is a means to develop talents in cyber security fields. The Chief of Implementing Committee, Dr. Sutanto, DEA., stated that cyber activities would become an interesting topic in the future, from business to technological aspects.

“We observed that Indonesia urgently needs talents in the digital field, especially in cyber security. This strategic collaboration is a good start for UNS and Solo Municipal government that will be super responsive to digital talents’ needs. We want to shape people who could control and solve cyber-attack and experts in designing security design,” Dr. Sutanto stated.

Supporting Dr. Sutanto, Prof. Jamal stated that the industrial revolution 4.0 technology brings positive and negative impacts.

“The negative is people who hack, for example, when there are 279 million BPJS data leaked. Thus, cyber security is a tool to protect information from abuse by external parties,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Gibran explained that cyber security is vital because one of the Surakarta Government’s social media accounts was hacked not long ago. This is concerning because the government holds sensitive data of its people.

“The government data involves many people; thus, it needs to be kept very well and prevent misuse. For example, check-in data in Peduli Lindungi, we make sure that people’s data are not shared publicly. I often receive a complaint from people regarding online lending; they do not have the application but receive payment reminders. There must be leaked data (on that),” the mayor explained.

Prof. Nizam stated that millions of cyber-attacks entered the system of government, banking, and education institutions daily. A large number of internet users in the country also means that cybercrimes will increase in the future.

“Almost everyone uses internet, transaction, personal data, and communication, that only individual, there are banking, education, government, industry, and other systems. The increase in criminals’ activities demands for cyber security experts,” Prof. Nizam stated. He also hoped that Cyber Security Hub could bring cyber security talents, including research and development. Humas UNS
