UNS Strengthens Global Academic Collaboration

Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Planning, Cooperation, Internationalization, and Information, emphasized the significance of these agreements.

“At AppliedHE Xchange 2025, UNS is establishing partnerships with 20 institutions, ranging from universities to corporations. These collaborations align with our commitment to sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They specifically focus on fostering strategic alliances,” Prof. Irwan stated.

Through these partnerships, UNS aims to enhance research capabilities, improve educational programs, and facilitate student exchanges. Additionally, the agreements will support technological advancements to address global challenges.

Mandy Mok, CEO of AppliedHE, also highlighted the importance of these collaborations. “This agreement is more than just a document—it represents a gateway to groundbreaking opportunities. With strong commitment and enthusiasm from all parties, these partnerships will generate meaningful outcomes with tangible impacts,” she affirmed.

The MoU was signed by the Acting Rector of UNS, Dr. Chatarina Muliana, S.H., S.E., M.H., and the Chairman of KPPU, Dr. Ir. M. Fanshurullah Asa, S.T., M.T., IPU. The event was attended by leaders from both institutions.

UNS and KPPU agreed to cooperate in the areas of prevention, supervision, and law enforcement, as well as the implementation of the three pillars of higher education in the fields of competition and partnership. The MoU will be in effect for three years from the date of signing. It serves as a foundation for collaboration and coordination through agreed-upon activities or fields, aiming to support the tasks and functions of both parties.

The scope of the MoU between UNS and KPPU includes efforts to prevent violations of competition law and oversee the implementation of partnerships, provide support in supervision and law enforcement, and carry out the three pillars of higher education by teaching competition-related subjects and facilitating partnership outreach programs.

In her remarks, Dr. Chatarina emphasized the importance and strategic nature of this moment. Dr. Chatarina, as the leader of UNS, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the collaboration with KPPU in the areas of prevention, supervision, law enforcement, and the implementation of the three pillars of higher education in competition and partnership. The MoU signing was followed by cooperation agreements between KPPU and three faculties at UNS: the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), the Faculty of Law (FH), and the Faculty of Engineering (FT).

“This signing is not merely a formality but aims to substantively implement benefits in the three pillars of higher education, one of which is through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka program,” Dr. Chatarina said.

She also stated that cooperation between UNS, the business and industrial sectors (DUDI), and government institutions is a primary focus. This is because UNS, as a higher education institution, contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the vision of Indonesia Emas 2045.

Collaboration with various parties also implements the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) of Higher Education to maintain the relevance of higher education institutions. This initiative accelerates innovation to meet the challenges of the times.

For Dr. Fanshurullah Asa, this cooperation is the implementation of the pentahelix collaboration concept. KPPU, representing the government, partners with UNS as an educational institution to carry out a work program. KPPU is initiating a program to create one million partnership educators, which will involve the academic community. This program is also being proposed for recognition through the MBKM (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka) program.

In the signing ceremony, UNS and PT Jasa Raharja (Persero) agreed to build a partnership in implementing the education, training, community services, implementing programs, and activities to increase traffic safety and reduce traffic accidents, and partnership in improving human resources quality.

In his opening remark, Prof. Sajidan shared his gratitude and appreciation to PT Jasa Raharja (Persero) for providing an internship program in Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program for UNS students. “Hopefully, this collaboration could improve students’ competencies through the MBKM program. Representing UNS, I convey our gratitude for the participation and the role of PT Jasa Raharja in accepting our students to participate in the MKBM program,” he stated.

The Director of Institutional Relations PT Jasa Raharja (Persero), Munadi Herlambang, stated that many activities could be implemented as the result of the MoU signed, besides the MBKM internship program. For example, the innovation program to design safety equipment, social development, developing community culture on safety, and hard skill or soft skill competitions, need support from education institutions. “So, we want to build a culture in Indonesia, a culture that is aware of safety on the highway,” Munadi stated. The signing of the Memorandum was witnessed by the Vice-Rector of Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus; the Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS, Prof. Sajidan; and the Director of Partnership, Development, and Internationalization of UNS, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho. Meanwhile, representing the LLDIKTI Region II was the Head of General Affairs, Fansyuri Dwi Putra, M.Si.; Academic Quality Analyst, Marce Lay, M.A.; Information Systems and Network Analyst, Fx. Romi Kurniadi Saputra, M.M.; the Rector of ITBis Lembah Dempo, Dr. Elvera; and ITBis Graduate Study Director of Lembah Dempo, Dr. Sastra Rico.

In his remark, Prof. Jamal appreciates the partnership established between UNS and LLDIKTI Region II. He considers this Memorandum of Understanding as proof that universities in Indonesia should not become exclusive and should open up collaboration opportunities. “This is a logical consequence of policy transformation, one of which is Merdeka Belajar and Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), that was proposed by the Ministry of Education and Culture,” said Prof. Jamal.

Prof. Jamal encourages the universities in LLDIKTI Region II, which currently oversees four (4) Provinces in Sumatra, namely the South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, and Bangka Belitung, to improve the quality of Human Resources (HR). One of them is to increase the number of lecturers with Ph.D degrees. “HR is an important element in the main development. More doctors and professors are needed. Therefore, I appreciate this Memorandum signatory. Hopefully, it can be implemented immediately. For any form of assistance UNS can provide, we will provide. And if there is any idea available to be conveyed, please share it with us,” said Prof. Jamal.

Meanwhile, Prof. Yuliansyah expects UNS assistance to improve the quality of private universities in his region, which approximately reached 200 institutions. Because, there are currently no private universities in South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, and Bangka Belitung with excellent accreditation score. “The number of Professors in our region is only 26. So we encourage lecturers to be brave to continue their doctoral studies. We are targeting 500 new doctors to meet the national standards,” said Prof. Yuliansyah. Humas UNS

PT. PLN (Persero) is a state-owned business entity that manages all electricity-related services and distribution in Indonesia. This partnership’s overall purpose and objective are to enhance and improve the implementation of education, research, and community service activities; and to support electricity infrastructure development and human resources. On the other hand, this partnership also aims to improve the competency in science and technology implementation for optimal electricity management and development, as well as to serve the community in PT. PLN (Persero) Central Java and DIY UID coverage area.

Prof. Sajidan hopes that this cooperation can be beneficial for both parties. “Hopefully, this cooperation will be beneficial for all parties, both for PLN and UNS in the field of research, community service, and electrical development,” said Prof. Sajidan.

The signing of this MOU coincides with the emission-free day at UNS. This emission-free day is held once every month on the first Friday of the first week of the month. Following the MoU signatory ceremony, there will be the distribution of 1,000 electric stoves for Solo residents. This distribution aims to reduce the use of gas stoves that support government programs to achieve net-zero emissions.

The GM of PT. PLN (Persero) for Central Java and DIY UID also hope that this cooperation contributes to national development. “Going forward is a tough challenge for us. Thus, we need assistance from universities both in terms of dissemination and coordination with the government and stakeholders. From Citilink, Ir. Juliandra was accompanied by the President Commissioner of PT. Citilink Indonesia, Dr. Prasetio, and the directors.

The Memorandum of Understanding between UNS and PT. Citilink Indonesia was signed to support and align the potential and resources of both parties. The collaboration will include education, research, community services, and implementation of the Merdeka Belajar-Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. This partnership will also cover ticket facilities for business/institution or non-institutional travel for UNS academic members and internships for students.

In his opening remark, Prof. Jamal welcomed the opportunity from PT. Citilink Indonesia in signing this Memorandum of Understanding. For him PT. Citilink Indonesia, as a reputable low-cost airline under Garuda Indonesia management, could bring a multitude of benefits for UNS.

“Our students could intern there and help with professional duties in Citilink. There is also an opportunity that our students could be employed after graduating,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Further, the Rector also stated that UNS would provide an opportunity for professionals from PT. Citilink Indonesia to teach in UNS as a part of MBKM program implementation that facilitated students to learn from experts.

“We are ready to facilitate! I hope this Memorandum of Understanding could be developed into collaboration points as a follow-up,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Responding to the warm welcome from UNS on the collaboration, Ir. Juliandra stated that PT. Citilink Indonesia pays excellent attention to educational institutions, implemented through collaboration with UNS at the beginning of 2022. He also emphasized that PT. Citilink Indonesia will welcome UNS students for internships in the company.

“Hopefully, through this (collaboration), we could learn together. We are ready to accept UNS students, and there will be travel tickets,” Ir. Juliandra concluded. Humas UNS

The memorandum of understanding aims to create synergy between UNS and PPATK to prevent money laundering and acts of terrorism. This agreement covers the development of scientific studies in various fields related to money laundering and acts of terrorism. The partnership signatory ceremony was carried out by Prof. Jamal Wiwoho as Rector of UNS and Dr. Ivan Yustiavandana as Chair of PPATK.

On this occasion, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho hopes that this collaboration can help ease the PPATK’s duties while contributing to the policies for anti-money laundering and acts of terrorism in the future.

“I believe that through various activities in this collaboration, such as research, human resource development, and community service, as well as conducting strategic research, hopefully, that UNS and PPATK can collaborate to help each other and ease PPATK’s duties in the future. Therefore, we really hope that PPATK can participate in the Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM) activities. Hopefully, this collaboration between UNS and PPATK will contribute to eradicating money laundry and acts of terrorism in Indonesia,” said Prof. Jamal in his speech.

Following Prof. Jamal’s remark, the Chair of PPATK, Dr. Ivan Yustiavandana, delivered a remark from PPATK. He hopes that this cooperation can bring benefit to Indonesia.

“Through this MoU, we wish to establish a better education system to let UNS students, academic members, and university leaders understand money laundering crimes. Hopefully, it will be useful for our beloved NKRI,” said Dr. Ivan

PPATK is an independent institution established to prevent and eradicate the crime of money laundering. This institution was founded on April 17, 2002. PPATK is responsible to the President of the Republic of Indonesia in carrying out its duties and authorities, which are independent and free from interference and influence of any power. Humas UNS

The collaboration between Metro TV and UNS will synergize three activities, education, research, and community services. The collaboration also covers the implementation of Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), instructed by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbduristek).

The Vice-Rector for Planning, Partnership, Business, and Information Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr. rer.nat. Sajidan, M.Si., who represented the Rector of UNS, attended the signing ceremony directly. Prof. Sajidan stated that this collaboration is a means to align the academic, business, and industrial worlds. Prof. Sajidan also thanked Metro TV for the collaboration and the opportunity for an internship for Communication Science Program faculty members.

“In the digitalization era, we need to continue our self-development. In this context, the MBKM program has brought campuses closer to the business and industrial world that is expected to equip university students and faculty members to accelerate the education 4.0,” Prof. Sajidan stated.

The collaboration that will also provide an opportunity for faculty members’ internships is essential to improve faculty members’ capability in various fields and follow the current development. The Director of Program and Development of PT. Media Televisi Indonesia, Agus Mulyadi, who also attended the signing ceremony, mentioned that his station wants to strengthen the relationship with UNS as a means of information on communication science transfer between UNS and Metro TV.

“We have a long partnership with UNS, and we hope the collaboration agreed this year could contribute and improve the synergy. Metro TV is fully aware that in the media era, we could not stand alone; we could not sit still with our resources. We need to build synergy and collaborate with many parties to help each other,” Agus stated.

Besides the partnership in Higher Education Tri Dharma and MBKM, this partnership will also focus on broadcasting, socialization, and publication through digital and other media. The memorandum of understanding regulates the implementation of Higher Education Tri Dharma and human resources development. This collaboration aims to synergize and optimize potential and resources from both collaborators in improving education, governance, and human resource development. The memorandum of understanding covers the implementation of education, research, and community services; human resources development; Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program implementation; and other activities agreed by both institutions.

IAI is a professional organization of Indonesian architects with a secretariat office located in Jakarta Design Center, Slipi, Jakarta. IAI was established on 17 September 1959 in Bandung.

The signing ceremony was opened with tumpeng cutting ceremony to mark the opening of Multimedia Room FT UNS, followed with an opening remark from Ar. Gregorius Budi Yulianto, IAI, AA as the Chairman of IAI. In his speech, Ar. Gregorius Budy Yulianto congratulated UNS and hoped that the collaboration could result in a more developed partnership.

“Congratulation to UNS and hopefully, what (we are) doing could result in a more developed collaboration,” he stated.

In the following opening remark, Prof. Jamal hoped that the partnership could contribute to UNS development in the future.

“I hope the collaboration agreement with IAI could contribute, for example, to provide lecture and become a speaker in FT UNS. We are open for development,” Prof. Jamal stated.

The collaboration agreement will be effective for five years since the signing between UNS and IAI. Humas UNS

The collaboration between UNS and TUC will cover student and faculty exchange and expansion of research and innovation. These programs are expected to bring a positive impact in improving the educational quality for UNS students to achieve international standards. The expansion of research and innovation is also expected to improve research outputs from both universities.

“That’s why we respect your willingness to build a mutual partnership with our university,” Prof. Jamal stated.

Prof. Diamadopoulos also shared his appreciation for the collaboration between UNS and TUC. This collaboration, according to him, will also bring a positive encouragement for TUC because currently, TUC is moving forward to be one of the top universities in Greece.

“So, it is important for us to continue all kinds of collaboration with other universities. Because we need to enrich all cultural life, we enrich all academic life. And we find an opportunity to be accepted here. So, we are delighted to sign this agreement,” Prof. Diamadopoulos stated.

The signing ceremony was also attended online by the Ad Interim Charge d’Affaires (KUAI) of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) Ahmad Ramadhan accompanied by Head of Chancellery and PF Pensosbud Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Athena. Besides sharing their appreciation for the strong commitment from both parties, although constrained by the Covid-19 pandemic situation, KUAI RI Athena hoped that the collaboration could improve people-to-people contacts RI-Greece further.

“For your information, this agreement, according to the embassy record, is the fourth university agreement between Indonesia and Greece,” Ahmad Ramadhan explained.

Ahmad Ramadhan and other KBRI Athens rank stated their support in the plans and implementation of the agreement. He also congratulated UNS and TUC. He hoped that the agreement would bring good effect on the improvement of the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Greece. Humas UNS
