Admission Process and Available Programs

Applicants can complete the registration process entirely online and from anywhere in the world. This year, UNS offers more than 50 regular Master’s programs and 22 regular Doctoral programs. Additionally, UNS provides research-track options for both Master’s and Doctoral programs, focusing on innovation and high-impact research.

Commitment to Academic Excellence

Prof. Drs. Sutarno, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of the UNS New Student Admission Selection Office (SPMB), emphasized the importance of opening graduate admissions. He explained that this initiative is part of the university’s ongoing efforts to address global challenges through research and innovation.

“We strive to be a hub for scientific development that makes a real impact on society. Our graduate programs at UNS promote collaboration, applied research, and enhance Indonesia’s human resources,” Prof. Sutarno said on Thursday (24/4/2025).

Expansion of Graduate Programs

Vice Rector for Academic and Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Fitria Rahmawati, S.Si., M.Si., added that UNS expands graduate student intake. This change will take effect this year. Starting this year, each Master’s program can admit up to 40 students annually. Each Doctoral program will have a capacity of 20 students per year.

Online Registration and Important Dates

The online registration for the first period of 2025 graduate admissions runs from April 15 to May 2. Applicants must submit documents such as diplomas, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a research proposal (for research-track programs). The university will hold the entrance examinations, including the TPA (Academic Potential Test) and English proficiency test, in May. It will schedule the special/skills/interview tests for May 9, and the university will announce the results on May 20.

Professional Programs Admission

In addition to Master’s and Doctoral programs, UNS is also accepting applications for professional programs. These include the Professional Engineer Program, Professional Architect Program, Sub-specialist Medical Education Program, and Specialist Medical Education Program.

The competition was organized by the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of UNS Library at the end of April 2022. Vita managed to win 2nd place in the numerical literacy category, while Bayu won 3rd place in the cultural literacy and citizenship category.

When interviewed by uns.ac.id on Thursday (9/6/2022), Vita explained that the idea came from the need to instill numerical literacy in students since elementary school. “Numerical literacy takes an important role in students’ daily life because it will help in shaping rational reasoning and reasoning techniques. With numerical literacy, students will have high reasoning power and more mathematical thinking, thus strengthening their problem-solving ability too,” she explained.

Vita claimed to be happy and moved when she was announced to win 2nd place. “Happy and moved because it was the first time I had won a competition. I have always wanted to participate in the competition, but I went back and forth and only gained some courage during my final semester,” she added.

Before concluding the interview, she hopes to continue developing her writing to compete with those with extensive experience. Humas UNS

The inauguration was attended by the Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Ahmad Yunus and the Dean of School of Postgraduate Studies UNS, Prof. Sutarno. In his report, Prof. Yunus stated that the new students in period 2 are registered in 42 Master’s Programs and 20 Doctoral Programs under faculties and Postgraduate School. In detail, 22 students were registered in the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB), 146 registered in the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), 140 students in the Faculty of Law (FH), 97 students in the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), 20 students in the Faculty of Medical Science (FK),

“Then Faculty of Agriculture (FP) 12 students, Faculty of Engineering 46 students, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science (FMIPA) 10 students, Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) five students, and 128 students in Postgraduate School,” Prof. Yunus reported.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal, also congratulated the new students as a part of the campus that respects and maintains diverse traditions. “To build synergy and collaborate in implementing science and interacting as a mindset to achieve high competitiveness,” Prof. Jamal stated. The Rector added that the new students are resources who will create innovative works in advancing the nations.

“I believe that on this campus, you are demanded to adjust yourself to the academic situation and dynamics. To use the opportunity to learn in projecting the dreams and creating the works needed to solve future problems in building the nation,” he added.

Prof. Jamal concluded his remark with a quote. “Never stop learning because this life will never stop giving you a lesson,” this quote showed the importance of knowledge in one’s life that individuals are expected to keep learning because life will keep changing and teach humans new things. “Change is inevitable, and one of our sacrifices is to be willing to keep learning diligently,” Prof. Jamal concluded. The offline workshop was participated by all masters and doctoral programs in UNS. Vice-Rector for Academic and Student Affairs UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.Si., opened the workshop and was followed by a discussion led by the Coordinator for Postgraduate Programs and PPDS, UPT SPMB UNS, Prof. Dr. Agus Kristiyanto, M.Pd.

“UNS has high potential to teach masters and doctoral students according to UNS target as WCU (World Class University) that ideally has 30% of masters and doctoral students,” Prof. Kris stated.

The efforts to attract prospective students’ interest towards UNS postgraduate programs have been taken by SPMB UNS, including improving services through updates of recent information, actively sharing information in various digital media platforms, and personal services.

The workshop invited the Rector of Universitas Widyatama, Prof. Dr. H. Obsatar Sinaga, M.Si., who shared his knowledge on postgraduate program promotion. Prof. Obsatar suggested that UNS takes more brave steps in promoting its postgraduate programs to prospective students and share its academic programs and benefits with prospective students.

The workshop was concluded with a discussion among the participants led by the Coordinator for Socialization, Promotion, and Partnership of UPT SPMB UNS, Dr. Intan Novela Qurrotul Aini, S.E., M.Si. UPT SPMB will provide a means to promote postgraduate programs to increase prospective students’ interest in the future. Humas UNS
