UNS — Students of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta managed to carve another achievement at the national level. They are Vita Sulistya from the Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program (PGSD), Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), and Bayu Aji Prasetya from the UNS Postgraduate School Cultural Study Program. Vita and Bayu have just won 2nd and 3rd place in the National Literacy Innovation Competition 2022.
The competition was organized by the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of UNS Library at the end of April 2022. Vita managed to win 2nd place in the numerical literacy category, while Bayu won 3rd place in the cultural literacy and citizenship category.
When interviewed by uns.ac.id on Thursday (9/6/2022), Vita explained that the idea came from the need to instill numerical literacy in students since elementary school. “Numerical literacy takes an important role in students’ daily life because it will help in shaping rational reasoning and reasoning techniques. With numerical literacy, students will have high reasoning power and more mathematical thinking, thus strengthening their problem-solving ability too,” she explained.
Vita claimed to be happy and moved when she was announced to win 2nd place. “Happy and moved because it was the first time I had won a competition. I have always wanted to participate in the competition, but I went back and forth and only gained some courage during my final semester,” she added.
Before concluding the interview, she hopes to continue developing her writing to compete with those with extensive experience. Humas UNS
