Dr. Maria Ulfa, S.Si., M.Si. also mentioned that this event is held every two years, regularly inviting renowned international speakers to broaden perspectives through scientific discussions and expand collaboration among researchers. The conference, held at the end of August 2024, began with opening remarks from the Chair of the IC3E Committee, the Head of the Chemistry Education Program, the Dean of FKIP UNS, and the Vice-Rector for Academic and Research Affairs. One of the highlights of the conference was the presence of key speakers, including Prof. Shin-ichiro Noro from Hokkaido University (Japan), Prof. Agnieszka M Ruppert from Lodz University of Technology (Poland), Prof. Maija Aksela from the University of Helsinki (Finland), Prof. Dr. David-Samuel Di Fuccia from the University of Kassel (Germany), Dr. Paed. Nurma Yunita Indriyanti, M.Si., M.Sc. from Universitas Sebelas Maret (Indonesia), and Lina Mahardiani, S.T., M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. from Universitas Sebelas Maret (Indonesia).

Prof. Shin-ichiro Noro from Hokkaido University, Japan, delivered a presentation on porous metal complexes, a type of porous material with unique characteristics and high structural flexibility. These properties make it an intriguing material, offering previously unseen capabilities and high performance. In addition, Dr. Paed. Nurma Yunita Indriyanti, M.Si., M.Sc. from UNS gave a presentation on students’ understanding of green chemistry. She emphasized the crucial role that green chemistry and educational issues play in sustainable development, highlighting the specific challenges posed by its social aspects.

Prof. Agnieszka M. Ruppert from Lodz University of Technology, Poland, discussed the benefits of biomass waste, which contains numerous platform molecules that can be used sustainably across various industrial sectors. Additionally, Prof. Maija Aksela from the University of Helsinki, Finland, presented her research on the opportunities and challenges of implementing education for sustainable development (ESD) through collaboration between teachers, researchers, and the community, along with practical examples of its application.

In addition to presentations from the keynote speakers, the conference also provided presentation sessions for participants to showcase their research findings, allowing attendees to interact directly with others in the same subfield. On the first day, three teams presented their research in the field of inorganic chemistry.

On the second day, the conference began with a keynote presentation by Lina Mahardiani, S.T., M.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. from UNS, who discussed the comparison between adsorption and photocatalytic methods for the degradation of wastewater containing crystal violet (CV), methylene blue (MB), and CV-MB mixtures using nanofibers modified from sugarcane waste. This was followed by participant presentation sessions, where attendees were divided into five rooms, each focusing on a different subfield.

Each room, focusing on a different subfield, featured invited speakers who delivered presentations aligned with their areas of expertise. The subfields included Organic Chemistry & Biochemistry; Environment, Pharmacy, and Public Health; Analytical Chemistry & Physics and Material Chemistry; Inorganic Chemistry, Chemistry Education & STEM Education; and Science Education. Notable invited speakers included Prof. Tatsufumi Okino (Hokkaido University, Japan), Prof. Dr. Edy Cahyono, M.Si. (Universitas Negeri Semarang, Indonesia), Prof. Dr. Sumari, M.Si. (Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia), Dr. Nanik Dwi Nurhayati, M.Si. (UNS, Indonesia), and Dr. Ari Syahidul, M.Pd. (UNS, Indonesia). After the participant presentations, the conference continued with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. David-Samuel Di Fuccia from the University of Kassel, Germany, who discussed his research on the opportunities and challenges of using virtual reality (VR) in chemistry education.

According to Dr. Maria Ulfa, S.Si., M.Si., the conference aims to foster stronger collaborations between academics, researchers, and practitioners in chemistry and chemistry education from various countries. “Through this forum, participants can share knowledge, experiences, and the latest research findings, enriching insights in chemistry and chemistry education. Additionally, this conference opens new opportunities for international research collaborations that could lead to significant innovations in chemistry and chemistry education,” Dr. Maria Ulfa stated.

The 14th ICSAR 2024 was a three-day event, held from Wednesday (5/6/2024) to Friday (7/6/2024). The conference was conducted in a hybrid format, with in-person events taking place in the Ballroom of Ki Hadjar Dewantara Tower at UNS.

As part of this event, UNS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Bayan Resources Tbk, aimed at providing scholarships for disabled students for the 2024/2025 academic year. This MoU signing took place during the opening session of the 14th ICSAR 2024.

The first day of the 14th ICSAR 2024 featured a Collegial Meeting at UNS Inn, attended by the Indonesian Professional Association of Orthopedagogy (APOI), Southeast Asia Association for Special Education (SEASEd), and various academic community members. Attendees included the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UNS, Prof. Dr. Mardiyana, M.Si., and the Chairman of the 14th ICSAR 2024 Committee, Dr. Subagya, M.Si.

The Collegial Meeting discussed trends in the Special Education Study Program curriculum, curriculum reconstruction, and academic discussions. Speakers included Prof. Dr. Asep Supena, M.Psi., a professor of Special Education Psychology from the Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), and Dr. Aljon Dapa, M.Psi., a lecturer in Special Education from Universitas Negeri Manado. Prof. Dr. Munawir Yusuf, M.Psi., Head of the Disability Study Center at LPPM UNS and professor of Inclusive Education Management at FKIP UNS is the moderator.

The second day of the 14th ICSAR 2024 marked the peak of the conference. Dr. Joko Yuwono, M.Pd., representing the organizers, emphasized that inclusive education has become a global discussion. He highlighted the importance of global involvement in promoting student-friendly, environmentally friendly, and learning-friendly education.

Dr. Joko Yuwono stated that inclusive education has grown and established itself in providing equal opportunities for special needs students. He noted that these students can increasingly become active members of society. He also acknowledged that special education practices still require various improvements, presenting challenges for continuous development and adaptation.

“Addressing these challenges requires research, publication, innovation, creativity, and accommodations based on the needs of society, educators, education personnel, and students,” Dr. Joko Yuwono said.

Aswin Wihdiyanto, S.T., M.A., Director of the Directorate of Community Education and Special Education (PMPK) at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) RI, appreciated the active participation of the academic community in this international conference. He emphasized the importance of all contributions to the sustainability and improvement of educational services for individuals with disabilities.

“On behalf of Kemendikbudristek, I express gratitude and full support for the initiative of all parties, including UNS as the host. Inclusive education has undergone significant changes and progress in Southeast Asia’s educational systems, and globally,” Aswin said.

The 14th ICSAR 2024 featured several keynote speakers, including Dr. Praptono, M.Ed., Secretary of the Directorate General of Early Childhood, Primary, and Secondary Education, who delivered a keynote remark. Other notable speakers included Assoc Prof. Aurora Adina Colomeischi, Ph.D., from the University of Suceava, Romania; Prof. Hyo Jeong So from Ewha Womans University, South Korea; Shinsaku Nomura, Senior Economist and Education Cluster Lead for Indonesia, World Bank; Aswin Wihdiyanto, S.T., M.A., Director of PMPK; and Dr. Fadhilah Umar, S.Pd., M.Or, from UNS. The second day also included a second Collegial Meeting focusing on the formation of a curriculum reconstruction working group.

The third day of the 14th ICSAR 2024 concluded the event with visits to several educational institutions, including Sekolah Luar Biasa (SLB) Solo, the Disability and Inclusive Education Service Center in Surakarta, and Al Firdaus Elementary School.

Prof. Jamal highly appreciates the activities initiated by the PBI Doctoral Program, stating that, to this day, the humanities field of study has been underestimated under comparison with the exact science. However, the humanities field is crucial for society. This conference is a testament and an effort to elevate the dignity of the humanities field.
“This conference proves that humanities field of study is greatly needed by the community. This humanities science can maintain the unity and integrity of Indonesia, population,” said Prof. Jamal.

Other than re-introducing humanities science to the community, Prof. Jamal also considers that the conference could have a positive impact on the PBI Doctoral Program UNS. He also hopes that this conference can encourage the PBI doctoral students to be more productive in writing scientific articles, as well as researching according to the subject of their knowledge.

This year ICHSS invites three main speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Ir. Aisyah Endah Palupi, M.Pd., the Attaché for Education and Culture (Atdikbud), Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Manila, Philippines; Associate. Prof. Sukree Langputeh, Vice Chancellor for Foreign Relations at Fatoni University, Thailand; and Prof. Dr. Andayani, M.Pd., the Head of PBI Doctoral Study Program UNS.

The ICHSS 2021 organizing committee chairman, Dr. Imroatus Solikhah, M.Pd., states that aside from the main speakers, this international conference also prepares parallel sessions for the presenter participants. The presenter participants will present their articles, which the organizing committee has previously selected. The selected articles presented by the participants will be submitted to several affiliated journals and proceedings.

The theme discussed in the international conference was Governance and Public Policy in Society 5.0 that was divided into several sub-themes, including disaster mitigation, agile governance, regional governance, public policy, and public management in the era of society 5.0 to enrich the discussion materials on governance and public policy in the contemporary era.

The conference was opened directly by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho with Rino A. Nugroho, Ph.D., a faculty member of State Administration Science Program FISIP and the Head of International Office UNS, and Oscar Radyan Danar, Ph.D., a faculty member of Public Administration Science of the Faculty of Administration Universitas Brawijaya, acted as the moderators for the plenary session.

The invited speakers in this conference are experts in state administration and public administration from four countries. They are Prof. Paul Henman from The University of Queensland, Australia; Dr. Li Li Pang from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Brunei Darussalam; Prof. Kwon Gi-Heon from Sungkyungkwan University, South Korea; Alex B. The numbers scientific publication of Scopus-indexed journals can be increased by conducting international conference. The international conference gives opportunities for the researchers to disseminate the research outcomes. Besides, it can also give big chances to publish the result on Scopus-indexed journals. This step has been taken by Univesitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) and  Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) by carrying  joint seminar in form of international conference which target is to be published in Scopus-indexed ISI journal, International Conference on Science, Engineering and Nanotechnology 2016 (ICESNANO 2016).

In the first year of implementation, Machinery Engineering Department of Engineering Faculty of UNS became the conference host which was going to be done alternately once in two years. The theme, “Empowering innovation in engineering, science and nanotechnology”, can attract the conference participants held on Wednesday – Friday (3-5/8/2016) at Alana Hotel & Convention Center, Solo. “Electronic macro and nanotechnology are new things. I’m excited because the number of participants coming to this event is prodigious. It means it is not merely because of the interesting topic and location, but also Universitas Sebelas Maret, as the partner, is able to magnetize many participants. That is an important point for discussion about technology,” Mohd Noh Dalimin, Vice-Chancellor of UTHM, explained.

There are three topics delivered in the conference: the practical engineering application including mechanics, civil, electronics, energy and power engineering, industrial engineering, chemical engineering, other alternative engineering technologies); basic and applied science including physics, ceramic, optic, polymer, composite, material sciences, metallurgical; dan nanoscience & nanotechnology including nanoelectronics, nanochemistry, nanophysics, nanomaterial, nanocomposites; semiconductor physics, nanodevices.

After signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), UNS Rector, Ravik Karsidi said that the cooperation between UNS and UTHM embodied through students exchange, collective Community Service Program, lecturers exchange, joint research and cooperation in international conference. Meanwhile, Mohd Noh Dalimin mentioned UNS – UNTHM cooperation was a unique teamwork. “UTHM is specialized in engineering program, but UNS has many infrastructures. Agriculture Faculty and Medical Faculty enable technology implementation to be broadened.
