During these visits, the Chair of LSP UNS for the 2024-2029 period, Prof. Dr. Ir. Endang Yuniastuti, M.Si., highlighted the increasing demand for professional competency certification in response to the evolving needs of both national and international industries. Typically, competency achievements are obtained through educational institutions, training, and work experience, assuring competency levels. LSP UNS is an extension of the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP), authorized to certify UNS students. This certification is crucial as a formal recognition of students’ expertise in their respective competency units.

The primary goal of this program is to introduce LSP UNS by presenting its general profile, duties, authority, and the outcomes it has achieved. Prof. Endang, accompanied by the LSP UNS team, emphasized the benefits of the certification program for students.

“It is expected that each student will possess at least one competency certificate bearing the Garuda Pancasila logo from BNSP as a supplementary document to their degree (SKKNI). Furthermore, every UNS student is entitled to take a competency test once during their studies, free of charge,” Prof. Endang explained.

Currently, LSP UNS offers 54 competency schemes, with an additional 41 new schemes submitted for approval by BNSP. The institute has 127 active assessors. However, the distribution of certified students across UNS is still uneven, with certain faculties or schools having higher concentrations. “Ideally, each study program (Prodi) should have at least one competency scheme. Thus, LSP UNS remains open to proposals for new schemes from relevant study programs, aligning with the procedures set by LSP and BNSP,” Prof. Endang added.

During these outreach sessions, LSP encouraged faculty and school leaders to support the development of LSP, emphasizing that the institute belongs to everyone at UNS. The meetings aimed to gather feedback and suggestions to enhance the quality and quantity of competency schemes, assessors, and candidates (assessees).

Faculty and school leaders, accompanied by the Heads of Study Programs (Kaprodi), expressed positive appreciation for these outreach efforts, as many were still unfamiliar with LSP’s role and functions.

At the end of each visit, Prof. Endang expressed gratitude for the warm reception and positive feedback from the faculty and school leaders at UNS. “LSP’s success relies on the support of all stakeholders. We hope these efforts will help improve the quality and quantity of candidates in every competency test. We seek the continued support and collaboration of the university, especially from faculties and schools, to further develop LSP,” she stated.

This initiative aligns with the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on Quality Education. As a leading educational institution, UNS recognizes the importance of equipping its graduates with adequate certification, enhancing their employability and competitiveness in the job market.

The meeting, held in UNS’s Dr. Prakosa Building, was also attended by Prof. Dr. Ir. Eka Handayanta, M.P., IPU, ASEAN, Eng., and Occupational Health Scheme Assessor, Dian Nugroho, dr., M.Med.Ed. In her opening remarks, Prof. Endang welcomed the LSP Untirta delegation and emphasized the importance of exchanging knowledge and resources between the two institutions.

“Our hope is for this to be a mutual exchange of strengths from each institution,” Prof. Endang said.

The event continued with an introduction and presentation by LSP Untirta Chair, Dr. Ir. Wahyuni Murtiningsih, M.T. The five-person delegation, including a young doctor, sought insights on expanding the Faculty of Medicine’s certification schemes. Currently, Untirta has 47 assessors and 13 certification schemes.

Prof. Endang provided an overview of the LSP UNS, established in 2020, which has grown steadily. As a P1-level LSP, it primarily serves UNS students and has developed 54 certification schemes with Testing Centers (TUK) located across various UNS faculties.

“By the end of this year, we are submitting 41 new schemes for approval, now undergoing revision after verification by the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP). Among these, four health-related schemes are proposed: Senior Caregiver, Junior Caregiver, Emergency Room (ER) Nursing in Hospitals, and Specialized Nursing in Hospitals,” Dr. Wahyuni explained.

Dian Nugroho, dr., M.Med.Ed., an assessor at LSP UNS, also shared insights on developing the Occupational Health Scheme, detailing the phases from planning and full assessment to the issuance of a license by BNSP. He emphasized the importance of commitment from future assessors and support from the faculty.

The session concluded with an interactive discussion between Untirta representatives and UNS’s Occupational Health Scheme Assessor, exploring best practices and experiences in creating medical certification schemes.

“Hopefully, today’s discussion provides insights into suitable schemes for the Faculty of Medicine while addressing the practical needs of students entering the workforce,” Prof. Endang concluded.

Invited guests included Faculty Leaders in charge of language and literature from various universities (PT) Solo Raya, as well as UNS stakeholders. The event was opened directly by Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., as LSP UNS Steering Committee who is also the Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs.

Prof. Yunus stated that LSP UNS has received a license from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) since 2020. Currently, LSP UNS has 40 competency schemes that have been managed and developed continuously according to the fields or graduate profiles of study program (Prodi). LSP UNS is also in the process of adding 14 additional schemes (PRL), one of which is the Occupational Sworn Translator. “The Sworn Translator Scheme is an opportunity for the Faculty of Cultural Studies (FIB), Vocational School (SV), and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP). Especially in the Language and Literature Study Program, there is only 1 LSP that can carry out the scheme competency test for the Sworn Translator, namely the LSP Universitas Indonesia (UI),” he said.

Furthermore, the Head of LSP UNS, Dr. Aniek Hindrayani, said that the translator is needed by the job market. Especially for formal legal needs, both national and international, in which there are documents that require translators. “This potential exists and is owned by UNS. Therefore, UNS really expects that the Directorate General of Legal and General Administration (AHU) can provide a letter of eligibility support for LSP UNS to be able to test the sworn translator scheme. To our colleagues in Solo Raya universities, we hope that in the future we can collaborate in order to provide provisions to our students/alumni regarding competence in the field of language interpretation, especially sworn translators and other schemes for universities that do not yet have an LSP,” she concluded. Dr. Aniek Hindrayani, as the Head of LSP UNS, states that aside from conducting competency tests for prospective participants, LSP UNS collaborates with the BNSP to facilitate UNS academic members to be assessors in various schemes in accordance with the global demand. Currently, UNS has 54 assessors for 20 competency certification schemes.

The Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho, states that the establishment of LSP in UNS is a form of UNS commitment and responsibility. This establishment aims to prepare professional and competitive graduates amid the global transformation. “Because one of the substantive components that must be repaired during the 4.0 industrial revolution is workforce’s capacity, which covers scientific competency, skills, and attitude. These competencies will be important capital to face the current and future global economic growth,” explains Prof. Jamal on Wednesday (4/8/2021) while participating in the competency certification.

One of the assessors, Dr. Sriyanto, expresses his appreciation to UNS because the competency certification is implemented smoothly. Moreover, LSP UNS always prioritize strict health protocol to avoid unwanted events during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
