Dr. Hedrig Joko Prasetyo, M.Or., is the Head of the Sports Division for the 49th Dies Natalis Committee. He expressed his gratitude for the participants’ enthusiasm. According to him, the entire event ran smoothly. The participants and organizers filled it with cheer and sportsmanship.

“This competition is one of the main activities in the 49th UNS Dies Natalis celebration, especially in the sports sector. Around 180 members of the UNS academic community participated in Fun Archery, Fun Woodball, and Petanque,” Dr. Hedrig said.

He further explained that the competition aimed to strengthen camaraderie and build stronger relationships among academic members. Moreover, it served as a way to promote teamwork and cultivate healthy habits through physical activities.

“We hope this event will inspire our academic community to engage in more sports. Physical wellness supports better performance and contributes to a healthier campus environment,” he added.

More Activities Ahead to Promote Healthy Living

He stated that the event was part of the university’s long-term effort to promote a green campus. It also aimed to contribute to climate change mitigation.

“This tree planting represents UNS’s commitment to environmental sustainability. It’s more than an anniversary celebration. It’s a meaningful action to raise awareness about the need to protect nature for future generations,” Prof. Suranto said.

By involving 58 professors in this initiative, UNS demonstrates its dedication to both academic excellence and environmental responsibility. The university hopes that this event will spark a broader movement toward greener campuses across the country.

Prof. Dra. Ani Rakhmawati, M.A., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), was among the participating professors. Prof. Ir. Ary Setyawan, M.Sc., Ph.D., from the Faculty of Engineering (FT), also took part in the event. Prof. Ani planted a Mulwo tree (Annona reticulata L.), while Prof. Ary planted a Duku tree.

Prof. Ani noted the symbolic value of planting fruit trees. “UNS already has many lush trees, so this time, we chose fruit-bearing trees to attract birds and wildlife. Mulwo is also a rare fruit nowadays, which is why I chose it. God willing, I’ll take care of it so it thrives,” she said. Prof. Ary explained the meaning behind his choice. “When you peel the Duku fruit, its flesh resembles Arabic script. Planting a Duku tree symbolizes planting knowledge—allowing it to grow and benefit future generations,” he explained.

On Tuesday (11/3/2025), during the 49th UNS Dies Natalis, the Central Kalimantan Food Crop Office visited FT UNS to further discuss the collaboration. The meeting included the Dean of FT UNS, Prof. Dr. Ir. Wahyudi Sutopo, S.T., M.Si., IPU, and the Head of the Food Crops Office, Ir. Hj. Sunarti, M.M. It also involved the Director of Planning, Cooperation, Internationalization, and Reputation at UNS, Ibrahim Fatwa Wijaya, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D.

Additionally, the implementation team was present. The meeting aimed to foster collaboration between the two institutions. The discussion focused on project details, timelines, and technical challenges.

Roles and Responsibilities of Each Party

Ir. Sunarti emphasized the goal of creating 100.000 hectares of new rice fields in Central Kalimantan. Currently, 20.000 hectares are under construction, supervised by Politeknik Tanah Laut (Politala) and Universitas Palangka Raya. FT UNS will oversee the process before and after construction, ensuring the quality and efficiency of the project.

“This coordination meeting will address technical aspects, such as irrigation and pipeline installation. We aim to complete the project on time so that rice planting can start by October,” Ir. Sunarti said. She further noted that the success of this initiative would significantly boost rice production and improve food security.

Ibrahim Fatwa Wijaya stated that this partnership aligns with UNS’s mission to support national food security. He expressed optimism that similar collaborations would follow in the future, strengthening the agricultural sector and enhancing community welfare.

During the event, Fan Jie, Director of the Confucius Institute at UNS, expressed appreciation for the China Center’s establishment. Representing China, she emphasized that this initiative strengthens the longstanding friendship between Indonesia and China. She hopes the center will enhance cultural and academic exchanges. In particular, she aims to strengthen language and educational development for students, lecturers, and staff.

“The UNS China Center is a testament to the strong friendship between China and Indonesia. As the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations approaches in 2025, we believe this center will continue to grow. It will also contribute significantly to fostering cooperation in various fields,” Fan Jie stated.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Ahmad Yunus, M.S., Head of the UNS Mandarin Language Center, emphasized the reason behind the establishment of the China Center. The rapid growth of activities at the UNS Confucius Institute prompted its creation. The Chinese Embassy has recognized it as the most active Mandarin Language Center in Indonesia. It aims to accelerate academic and industrial collaboration between UNS and China.

“The Rector and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (MWA) have given their approval. With this support, we are committed to strengthening UNS’s ties with universities in China. We also aim to enhance collaboration with industries in the country. Our main objective is to facilitate student and faculty exchanges while enhancing cooperation with industries in both countries. A Mother’s Words That Shaped a Future Leader

During his speech, Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman expressed deep gratitude and recalled his humble beginnings.

“I was born into poverty and raised in hardship,” he shared emotionally at the G.P.H. Haryo Mataram Auditorium, UNS, on Tuesday (11/3/2025). “But my mother always said, ‘Son, you will become a great person. You will change our fate.’ Her words still echo in my heart.”

Growing up in a rural village, he was one of 12 siblings. His father, a low-ranking soldier, struggled to provide for the family. To survive, they often searched for food in the forest.

“Many of you were born on spring beds, but I was born under a tree. I remember coming home from school, exhausted and hungry, only to find no food available. So, we scavenged for guavas and sweet potatoes in the forest,” he recalled.

The Core Values of Honesty and Hard Work

Despite financial struggles, his parents instilled in him strong values of integrity and perseverance.

“My parents always taught me to be honest and work hard. ‘Never take what isn’t yours,’ my mother would say. I hold on to that lesson to this day,” he stated.

His mother’s unwavering faith in his future was another guiding force. She always told him he would become a minister, even when it seemed impossible. Years later, her words became reality.

“I still remember her saying, ‘Son, you will be a minister one day.’ Deep down, I doubted it, but I never contradicted her. Then, one day, President Jokowi heard about a hardworking young man. That’s how I became part of the 2014 Cabinet,” he revealed.

The Power of a Mother’s Blessing

During his speech, Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman emphasized the importance of cherishing and respecting parents, especially mothers.

“If you want to see God smile, make your mother smile. A mother plays a crucial role in shaping our journey. If you have ever hurt your mother, don’t expect success. I wouldn’t be here today without her,” he asserted.

A Prestigious Recognition for Agricultural Contributions

The Parasamya Anugraha Dharma Krida Upa Bogha award is a recognition of his remarkable contributions to Indonesia’s agricultural sector. However, he sees it as more than just an achievement—it is a responsibility.

“I keep thinking about how I will be held accountable for this, both in this world and in the afterlife. This award is not just for me, but for the people of Indonesia,” he concluded.

Based on UNS Rector’s Decree Number 851/UN27/HK.02/2025, UNS granted the award to Dr. Andi Amran Sulaiman. The honor recognized his leadership, integrity, and achievements in improving Indonesia’s agricultural production index. “We selected him for this award because he is a role model. As part of the celebration, UNS presented the Parasamya Anugraha Dharma Krida Upa Bogha, also known as the UNS Award. The university honored Dr. Ir. Recognition for Alumni Achievements

Chairman of the 49th UNS Dies Natalis is Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, S.P., M.Si., IPM, ASEAN Eng., APEC Eng. He stated that the university officially presented the awards. The ceremony took place during the Open Senate Session on Tuesday (11/3/2025). The university organized the ceremony as part of the celebration. The recipients, who come from diverse academic backgrounds, hold significant positions in government, industry, and academia.

Notable Awardees

Among the recipients are Dr. Budi Santoso, M.Si., an alumnus of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), who serves as Indonesia’s Minister of Trade, and Agus Jabo Priyono, an alumnus of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), now Vice Minister of Social Affairs.
